Chabot RN Program Fall 2018

Hi! The second year students will be meeting with first year students during the orrientation at the end of this month. It is highly encouraged that new students "buddy-up" with second years for help, tutoring and general support. You'll get plenty of tips and advice to start at that meeting.

I hope that someone reads this to help me make my decision between Ohlone and Chabot.

I have been accepted into Chabot fall 2020 and Ohlone Spring 2021.

For the last 3 years, I have always thought that Chabot would be the place for me. I live in Hayward and its the top 3rd in CA for passing. I did not learn about their high attrition rate until later.

Then I found out about Ohlone last year and took all the additional classes needed to apply. When I went to the Ohlone information session I felt that the staff was more personable. When leaving the meeting I just had a feeling that I would get into there Spring program.

If ANYONE as opinions on both programs and could give me a little more insight it would be much appreciated. I just want to make the right decision.

As a Chabot graduate I can tell you the program is very hard yet you learn so much.

HOWEVER, most of the staff is now new/has just retired so I’m not sure how that will affect the overall program.

Hi I have a follow up question. What was your ending cost of Chabot? I know that they quote $7K but I feel like those estimates might be off some time.

I had an experience with Chabot that left a really bad impression on me about the program. I applied to Chabot twice. Prior to applying to Chabot the first time I emailed the nursing advisor my transcript from my UC to evaluate which classes would be approved for the program and what additional classes I needed to take to qualify for the program. She confirmed that the physiology class I took at my UC satisfied the physiology requirement for their program (I have emailed proof). After completing all the prerequisites and applying for the first time I was put on the waitlist but ultimately did not get in.

Now after applying the second time, they told me that I had been rejected because of that same physiology class that they already approved before. They told me that it did not satisfy their requirements. I called/emailed them telling them that I had written proof from the nursing advisor that my physiology class was approved AND that I got onto the waitlist the first time. They basically told me that the first time was a mistake. And that because the physiology class was taken at a UC, it did not meet their standards which did not make any sense (I'm guessing it was an excuse to avoid having to go through all the trouble to re-evaluate applications). Then an entire month later they sent me a document of "proof" of their policy. The whole thing was just unprofessional to me and didn't sit well with me ?

Anyway, I think that was all meant to happen because I got into Ohlone. The staff were like family. They're AMAZING and have done an incredible job with everything they've done for students. They have also further proven how much they care about their students with how they've handled the issues/inconveniences COVID19 has caused their students.

Before all this though, I attended both info sessions for Chabot and Ohlone just like you did and also had that same feeling about Ohlone. Which is why I am even more convinced I was meant to be at Ohlone. These are all my own opinions and experiences, and I could be biased. However, I think you should consider listening to that feeling you had when making your decision.

The price was reasonable. I got a BOGG fee waiver which paid for my classes so I graduated without any debt. Financially it’s a great idea, but I’m sure it’s comparable to other community colleges.

hi again! Could you explain the outline cost for Ohlone. I do not see it online anywhere and since I got into the Spring start program I will not be getting an email until September/October. Also, what is passing for Ohlone nursing program. Ex: passing C grade or a C grade on all test?
