Hello. I'm a newbie here! =)
I have this question that I've been googling and just gets me more and more confused. I'm a foreign nurse and just moved to NYC.
It seems that here the certifications you get during/after school are reeeeeeeeeeeeeally important. I'm talking about ACLS, PALS, etc etc... I wanted to know your opinion about the ones that you think that are the most important and where (website, offices) can I get more information. I've googled some and I get a bunch of different websites with different prices.
Help?
thanks a lot! =)

I know a lot of hospitals once you are employed there will actually put you through the class themselves.

Although I kept my BLS up to date I was told not to worry too much for ACLS etc as the hospital would put me on the relevant courses

MOST employers require basic BLS certification. Some REQUIRE ACLS, PALS, NALS. Most will provide recertification courses. New grads and nurses changing specialties can usually get BLS, and ACLS, PALS, NALS as needed from their employer.
I do 100% angency and am REQUIRED to get my own certifications. However, NEW this year MOST will only accept American Heart Association certifications.
I am lucky that I am a BLS Instructor and do now pay for that certification. ACLS and PALS coust me about $250-$300 every 2 years out of pocket. No certification, NO WORK.
Thanks for your help! =) So I should at least get the BLS certification. At least it's something... I'll look for it at AHA.org =)
