Can't get over my past

So this is kind of a vent, but I'm sure there are people out there who have had similar situations occur. My first nursing job I was fired from for making a med error(too little vanco) I own the mistake, it was my mistake to make, and I learned from it. Moving on. I get another job, and also start working for agency, because when I was a nurses aide, I loved agency. Well, I'm on contract right now that is up in two weeks, baylor weekends at a hospice house. My whole weekend just got cancelled due to low census. And I'm all concerned that it is because they decided they didn't want me anymore. Even though I know that most likely isn't the case, especially because they asked for me specifically. And it's a small facility, But my ego is still so incredibly bruised from something that happened almost a year ago that I get all concerned about stuff that really, is no reflection on me. I wish I could jsut get over it!

Gonna sound harsh but get over it!!!! You made a med error a year ago, was fired, you got another job......agency is the most unpredictable type of nursing because its based on a PRN basis so when they said 'we need an agency nurse' to when you were told you weren't needed it was probably because they had a stack of discharges

In my opinion all of us nurses have experienced this feeling one way or the other at some point in our career, especially when we just embark our journey. I sometimes admit feeling the same way worry over something you have no control of. My advise is do not lose sleep over it until the day you have to go back to work. Maintain your integrity, health, and spend quality time with your family when time allows.

Seriously, I know I hate it when people say this to me, but sometimes things like this happen for a reason. Maybe this job you were fired from, not for you. We all make mistakes, and to be fired for giving too small a dose of vanco? Either you aren't telling us the whole story or these people are nuts! Give too little, move on. I might get it if you gave too much and there were serious consequences with the patient, but geez, really?

You do have to move on. I too, was fired just 5 months ago. Serious personality conflict with the supervisor and I. She won. But thats over now. I also felt that for the longest time, I couldn't get a job because she was black balling me to other facilities (I still believe she was), however, I recently landed an even better job than I had before, and you will too. Jobs are out there, just look. Don't worry so much about what people think or what people do. You are a nurse, and nurses are needed. Your skills are definitely needed somewhere, and that somewhere will show up soon. PRN is just that... PRN. Enjoy your time off.

I used to hear about ppl getting fired and I always thought wow I have never been fired from any job since I was 16 and I could go back and get all those ******** job back if I wanted. Who knew that when I became a nurse-my career! That I would experience my first FIRING! LOL. I'm in NYC so the ppl that I deal with I find to be insane, no offense, not from here lol, but I told the scheduling lady to made me per diem that I could no longer work 2 days a week. Then a few days later the DNS/DON called me and said that she had been getting complaints from me from the staff that I was rude and what not and that she believes I did not give a patient a medication. So that she was going to have to let me go. You know what I told her- no problem! lol I took myself off the schedule anyways and that place wasn't for me. I was on a TBI unit-very different-interesting-but not for me. Listen girl, theres a time and a place for everything and I look at it as an experience. Luckily I had another nsg job because that was just for extra money but you know what. Getting fired isn't uncommon. You just think it wont happen to you. lol. But it can. And its not the end of the world! CHEER UP and move on. plus when you work agency your just needed when your needed. No biggie. Look for something more permanent :)

No, I didn't give the whole story. I too butted heads personality wise with one of the higher ups, and got in trouble previously for missing a colace order (no lie). As a result I was placed on probation, then the vanco thing happened. Lo2128, did you work where I did? lol. I sometimes wonder if messing up the vanco wasn't a self fulfilled prophecy. I hadn't been happy there for a long time and was looking for other jobs, and wasn't being quiet about it either. Thanks guys. Not looking for sympathy, I just want to make sure I'm not the only nut job lol :facepalm:

Oh yes , giving too little medication it is still an error! That is not the dose the doctor ordered! My hospital required you to file an incident report. Obviously , you were not paying close attention etc. But I don't think it is fair or strong enough reason to get fired.

Did you put that job on your resume and applications? I quit my first nursing job after only two months (long story) and my manager was really upset with me. So I'm so scared to put that job on resumes and applications

But background checks are done. I don't know what to do. Any advice. My biggest concern Is that an employer will take 1 look at my resume and not even consider me for an interview because they will think I would just quit on them too.
