Jun 10, 201412 yr Is a B.S in nursing the same as a B.S.N? I KNOW DUMB QUESTION... BUT THE SCHOOL IM CONSIDERING ATTENDING WORDS THINGS ALITTLE WEIRD... I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE I AM EARniNG MY B.S.N, NOT JUST A B.S
Jun 10, 201412 yr What school are you considering attending, and is the BS in nursing? Also, you shouldn't start a bunch of posts in the same forum. If you have multiple questions, you can post them all in the same post.
Jun 10, 201412 yr Author I'm considering excelsior for BSN..... But I noticed on there website it say BS... is it the same thing as BSN
Jun 10, 201412 yr If it's a B.S. with major in Nursing you're okay. Purdue University is (or at least was in past) the same way. They don't have a BSN, they have a B.S. with major in nursing and it's fine.
Jun 10, 201412 yr Yes, Excelsior's program is a BS in Nursing, according to their website. However, at $30,000+ in tuition for the RN-BSN program, it's hella expensive. There are MANY cheaper options out there.
Jun 11, 201412 yr Ya MIGHT want to read this:Former nursing students sue Excelsior College over 'deceptive or misleading practices' @insidehigheredEspecially the part about California not accepting graduation from this program as eligibility to obtain a license, and 14 other States with significant obstacles for these grads in hoping to get licenses there, too.
Jun 11, 201412 yr Author Thats crazy.... I spoke with an admission rep and she quoted the program at $12,000...... Where did you see or hear of it costing $30,000.... Please let me know....
Jun 11, 201412 yr Author ok... I got it now lol....... Do you know of anyother online BSN programs that will take students from Breckinridge/ ITT

That only applies to the LPN/medic/RRT to ASN/RN program
Jun 11, 201412 yr Author I have heard that also..... I believe on there website the RN-BSN program is accepted.... atleast in Oregon it is
Jun 11, 201412 yr That has nothing to do with the RN to BSN program. That only applies to the LPN/medic/RRT to ASN/RN programAh, ok. I remembered the scandal, reputation, etc.....found something that I thought reflected that. But yes, I see it's not for the bridge program. OTOH, if there's something so "off" for this program from the school, might be cause for concern for other programs it has, no?

OTOH, if there's something so "off" for this program from the school, might be cause for concern for other programs it has, no?If you read the complaint it's because people did not comprehend the type of competency based program the bridge program is, and felt Ill prepared for the competency based clinical performance exam. The program graduates pass the NCLEX at similar rates to traditional programs. The RN to BSN/MSN programs are course based similar to most B&M programs. Excelsior has bee around for more than 40 years and is a CCNE accredited, NLN center of nursing education excellence for ASN BSN &'MSN. Not all program earn that distinction. Is the distance learning or competency based learning program appropriate for most people, probably not but it is a viable option for those who due to work or other commitments cannot sit in a classroom and are highly motivated independent learners. I'd venture to say based on the thousands of people I've met over the years and hundreds that I've worked with or trained MOST are not motivated independent learners. But for the few that are, and do their research on their options, distance or online programs can be a godsend. I will definitely concur that the competency based bridge to ASN is NOT appropriate for most candidates. As an aside, CABRN does not accept any distance/online based entry-to-practice nursing education program.
