Brookhaven Fall 2019

Anyone applying for Fall 2019? I know it seems far away, but the application is due the end of Feb. It is best we begin to prepare now, especially those who need immunizations.

I need:

Critical thinking exam.

Retake Hesi for a higher competitive score.

Dosage calculations workshop.

I'm taking Chem 1405 and Phil 2306 this fall and Pharma in winter.

Hey guys! Im applying for fall 19 as well! I was ready to apply for this spring but my hep b titer came back too low! Totally thought I was in the clear but guess not! But I brought it up with two boosters and I'm ready to apply for the fall! I took the Hesi and made a 90 overall but Im gonna retake because I'm pretty sure I can do better. Also soooo glad they took away the critical thinking exam.

My titer also came back negative after the 3 round accelerated twinrix shots. Do you mind if I ask how long you waited for the boosters and where you went? I thought my only option was to start a second series of shots.

I just went to my primary care physician and I got my first on beginning of september then I had to wait 6 weeks and I had a titer drawn again and my level was still too low so I got another on a week before halloween and just got my titer drawn recently and it was finally to level.

I, too, will be applying next month for the fall. I moved here in June from NC and I'm having difficulty getting my A&P classes accepted which has been unbelievably stressful. So far I've been told my A&P 2 class is the equivalent of SCIT 1408 which would mean I wouldn't have to retake the class but I won't get the three extra points for the class which seems so crazy to me. The course descriptions are so similar that the decision just seems random (not to mention unfair) to me. I'm going to try to meet with someone on Tuesday about this so I can get those three points!

I still have to do the dosage calculation workshop. My husband and I moved the weekend of December 15 so I'm going next Saturday, January 26 for that. I also have to take the HESI yet.

I've been using the HESI app on my phone. If anyone has any tips on prep for that, please let me know.

I've also applied to Texas Tech for dual enrollment but haven't heard back yet. Has anyone else applied for that?

Oh, and I have to get my Hep B titers checked this week and hope that goes okay. Can anyone tell me what their levels were? I think it just has to be above 12 miu/ml if I'm not mistaken. I've got my fingers crossed!

Best of luck to all of us! My name is Sue, by the way.

I forgot another question: does anybody know how current the TB test has to be? I'll bet I have to do that again... I had two of them just over a year ago. Has anybody met with the Brookhaven school nurse to discuss immunizations yet? I should probably do that sooner rather than later.

Hey everyone, I went to the dosage calculations workshop back in December and made a 87% ?. So I'll be there again the 26th of this month for a second chance to pass. I took the Hesi this past Friday the 18th and made a 90% overall so that gives me at LEAST a minimum 15 points. I have 6 points from the support courses. My prerequisite GPA is 3.31 ( 3 B's and 1 A) so I'm assuming that's 3 points? So that's 24 points I'm applying with so far. I'm going to retake the HESI and hope for at least 95% overall. I'm going to have the campus RN sign off on my immunizations on the 23rd when I sign up for the HESI again.

I also applied at El Centro.

Go to these links below and print out the practice test for each section. Some of the questions on there were actually on the test. I've taken the HESI several times and I can confirm this. Print it out, take it like an actual test and check your answers with the given answer sheet. Good luck!

Also, how did you apply for the TT Dual enrollment? I'm interested.

According the immunization form on the Brookhaven website, it has to be within the last year and yearly after.

VMRose, thank you so much for all of the information! I decided to apply for the dual enrollment based on comments made by students in the Brookhaven Spring 2019 thread.

Here's the link to that thread (discussion regarding dual enrollment starts around page 11 and 12 if you just want to navigate there but it's a good thread to read):

As they were waiting to hear about whether they got in or not, I think at least two applicants to the Brookhaven nursing program said if you did the dual enrollment, you automatically get into the Brookhaven nursing program -- BUT I don't know if you have to have taken the two recommended classes or not. Other than that thread, I don't have any confirming information and am too chicken to ask the question at Brookhaven. So I figured it couldn't hurt to apply. I just went on the TT website and applied (they have an application fee). Funny thing is they've received my out of state transcripts but not the one from Brookhaven yet so I don't know whether I'll be accepted or not. I'll keep you posted on here if you like.

If you find anything else out on the dual enrollment, let us know!

So I need to get the TB test and pharmacies here don't do it so I'll figure that out this week.

Let's keep in touch.

Sue

Is anyone on this thread going to the dosage calculation workshop on January 26? I'll be there and would love to meet anyone applying for fall.

Sue

Another question (gee, can anyone tell what I'm spending my day doing today?): On Brookhaven website, it says nursing applications are due by 3:00 p.m. and for dates, it says February 18-27. I had in my head that the due date was February 18 but does that mean we have until the 27th?

Also, how long does it take to get the HESI results? I'm trying to decide how much time to give myself to study before taking it. Thanks!
