Hello everyone, I really need your help. I am a RN whom was placed on 3yr probation by the CA BRN for failing to document waste of narcotics. Part of my probation conditions requires me to undergo, " 9 Hours Minimum - Nursing Practice: with at least 9 hours related to: Patient safety related to nursing management of controlled substances utilizing automated systems." For the life of me, I can not find any course(s) that involve utilizing automated systems. Can someone out there help me? When I asked my probation monitor, I was told it is my responsibility.

Have you asked anyone in your Nurse Support Group?

It is not necessary for me to have be in a group. I committed a charting/documentation error, not diversion.

Hey you're reaching out and that's good - probation monitors can be really vague and hard to contact - as that's what I'm dealing with right now. I would suggest nurse.com and see what courses they offer - I have a yearly subscription for the CEUs so it's a keeper. Also if you haven't done so, get Liability Insurance via NSO.

Thanks for the support. They expect me to find a course that includes education on automated dispensing systems (e.g. pyxis, omnicell, accudose). I have never seen nursing C.E.s on this topic

I don’t have to be in a support group either but I found one anyway and the leader is amazing and answers every question I have. I would recommend joining one anyway and they can help you so much. All the support groups are on the board of nursing website.

This is a shot in the dark but try contacting the parent companies for pyxis, omnicell and accudose and see what they suggest!
