Bridge programs in Brooklyn, NY

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

Hello everyone, I am considering moving to Brooklyn NY next summer and I would like to know if anyone knows of any LPN to RN bridge programs there besides Helene Fuld College of Nursing. I'm currently doing prereqs at this time for RN and will be finished by April and I'm looking to start hopefully by summer semester, I know most nursing programs in GA start in May. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have never heard of that here in Brooklyn. Good luck on that! Helene, which is 45 minutes away from Brooklyn, is the school most people shoot for since its a one year program and the closest.

I'm looking for the same thing in brooklyn and found that citytech has an A.A.S programs for LPNs. Best of luck.

New York City Tech downtown Brooklyn on Jay street DOES NOT have a LPN to RN program. Their program is straight AAS or RN to BSN. I spoke to an admission advisor to confirm today what I already knew.

Thank you for your response, sorry I responded so late.

Do you know if Helene offers any financial aid or will I have to take out a loan? I'm asking because I don't want to have to take out another loan because I'm still paying money for a school that I only attended 2 months. The school is Distance Learning in GA. I didn't take out a loan but they draft my account for the money each month.

AAWWWW!!! I'm so looking for a community college so that I can apply for financial aid. I don't want to have to apply for a loan.

Helene does offer financial aid. I live in Brooklyn but I was looking at Nassau Community College because I have the prereqs, they are articulated with my LPN school and they take Excelsior College's A&P exam. I really don't want to do two semesters of A&P, this is another reason why I'm not looking at Helene. Do you have your pre-reqs? You can Clep three classes. You would have to apply now to start Helene in April. You would also have to come to take the entrance exam. Also you have to take their writing test even if you have the two English classes.

When you say clep 3 classes what exactly do you mean? Is it for Helene or NCC? I have all pre reqs except my Microbiology but I won't be finished by April. Do the classes for Helene begin each April? Since I won't be finished in time for April '09 I would probably have to wait until next April which is the problem I'm having in GA and the reason I was going to move, just so I can get into a nursing program w/o having to wait another year. When I do finish Micro and apply for Helene if I get in next April how long will I have to attend, is it just a year? Also, about Nassau Community College where in Brooklyn is it in relation to Helene? I'm just weighing my options before I actually decide on the move. Whoa! there is a lot expected from Helene.. I don't know if that is going to be likely. I know you said HF accepts financial aid are you referring to federal/government finan aid? What about NCC do they? At this point that's all I'm looking for because I currently receive finan aid now which has so far covered all of my classes. (not books)

Thanks for all of the info you're sharing.

They both have the financial aid you are looking for. You can start HF in August then. You would have to take their Math and Chemistry in August. You have to pass this in order to progress into the nursing class in Nov. You would then graduate the following Nov. Nassau is in LI, which is a half an hour drive from Brooklyn. It's a community college so I wouldn't advise it because its harder due to limited seats. Since you have all your prereqs HF is perfect for you. You can always do them at HF but they say its harder to take them with the nursing. The three CLEP exams are Sociology, Psychology, and Human Growth and Development. If you have those, then you are more than ready for HF once you pass the entrance exam.

I haven't taken Sociology yet though. Is this a pre req that's needed for HF? It's only needed in GA for a BSN. So if I decide on HF I guess I'll try and take Sociology next semester to get it out of the way.
