Birthing question

this is probably a common sense question but i was unsure, i was reading a post on home births and they were talking about the mothers not having iv's so they drink a lot of water and then the baby has brain damage. can someone explain this to me?

Again, I was responding to stnurse2008's question. I wasn't aware at that time that you had posted any information regarding this case, and I still don't know what thread you are referring to.

Please understand that most posters don't read every word of every thread. (We simply don't have the time!) If you reference information in another thread most of us won't have a clue what you are talking about, unless you post a link to that thread.

This BB is meant to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas. We realize that it is not the ultimate word on nursing or healthcare, and take what we read with a grain of salt. Most posters are trying to learn/share/be helpful to others with questions. If you do not agree with a response given by another poster, please consider to whom that response was directed.

The original poster QUOTED my reply inthe homebirth thread, which is on this NICU forum entitled "Would you consider a homebirth?" I think you even replied to it...and the poster here that asked about my story which I posted on the homebirth thread. It is about electrolytes, not blood glucose.

WHY is there so much confusion?:uhoh3:

kimbalou,

the original question posted by stnurse2008 does not quote another allnurses thread, or even mention the name of the bb on which s/he read about excessive water intake causing neonatal brain damage. therefore i assumed, as did other respondents, that s/he was referencing something from a lay website. we were offering possible explanations to a very vague question, without the benefit of knowing that the source of this story was another allnurses thread. you obviously recognized the story, and seemed to get annoyed that others did not.

as i stated previously, i don't read every word of every thread, even the ones that i respond to (my bad :). i also don't remember the finer details of every thread i have read, especially when a number of weeks have passed since my participation.

i'm sorry that i have irritated you so. that was certainly not my intention. my intention was to respond to the question raised by the op.

This is ridiculous.:lol2: I told you which thread I originally posted to about this baby, it was the one under NICU titled: Would you ever consider a homebirth?" YOU have been to that thread an responded to it!! It is questionable that you don't know what you read or respond to. I am not ssying you should read everything, but you should know what is going on in the threads you reply to! Don't other pople agree with that?!

This has become an issue about where this question originated from and i've told you that and you still claim to not know which thread I am speaking of!

I mentioned that the story was turning into a discussion about blood sugar, then I was trying to tell you I never mentioned blood sugar...to try and be helpful to people reading! Look at your posting history and you will see that you went there to the homebirth thread.:uhoh3:

I agree, this is ridiculous.

I don't agree that it is "questionable" that I don't remember a post that you made on the homebirth thread on 4-13-06.

I will waste no more time or energy defending a perfectly legitimate response I made to ANOTHER POSTER. My answer was directed to a question posed by stnurse2008, not an old entry on another thread made by someone else.

I will close this thread for a 24 hr cooling off period; if the OP wants it opened after that, PM me.
