Looking for some inspiration!!!
I'm in the second year of the BSN program and we started our summer practicum on Tuesday and I have been having a hard time. Yesterday I missed a med and today I missed a flush for one of my patients. I can not seem to get anything done and have been really frustrated. I am considering quitting nursing school but I have put a lot of time and effort into it and hate to quit something i've put this much time into. Last semester I did not have trouble with my clinicals and was actually doing well, my grades for last semester were really good too, I am one of the top students in my class (not trying to brag). Today after clinical my instructor made me stay and talked to me about getting an organizal tool. She also told me that I am easily distracted and if I think of a question I ask it and get off task. That kind of hurt. Needless to say I left crying. I just wanted some input because if the summer doesn't get any better I am quitting.

Micro w/o taking biology?
I did not have bio before micro it was not required and i passed, it was the first college class i had taken and i took it with anatomy, maybe if the school had requirements like the others i would have done better. It is possible to pass though i did it.

Birthing question
WOW, I am sorry that this thread got so heated. I did not mean to cause a problem I was just curious and looking for an answer. It was something I had never heard before and thought maybe one of you could help me understand it. I joined allnurses because I thought it was a place that I would have access to people that had more education than me and that could help me find some answers. I did not post this as a comparison to home birthing or birthing in the hospital, that is a personal choice and don't think it is anyones business what others choose (I know that risks and understand why people don't agree with it, NOT trying to start another fight). All I wanted was an answer as to why water consumption can cause brain damage thats it. Kimbalou-I am sorry that I offended you by using your post. No one knew what I was talking about and I was curious. I am sorry if I offended you and did not mean to do anything wrong. I hope that you can accept my appology. I also wanted to let you know that I do believe that you saw this happen and I don't want you to think that I am questioning your nursing knowledge, you have been doing this a lot longer than I. Also thank you for sharing about the person that, that happened to, that was all I was wanting to know. I know that the topics that we are faced with are very touchy and deal with personal morals and thoughts but it is a little disappointing that there is so much fighting on here and I am truely sorry that I started a fight. I guess I was naive and should have never used anyone elses post. Again I appologize to everyone for putting you in a bad position, and thank you for your help.

Questions about peak and trough levels??
This is probably a stupid question but can anyone explain to me about peak and trough levels. I had a pharmacology class last sememster but now I can't seem to remember and it was explained in a confusing way by the instructor. Any help would be appreciated!

Please help...
That is a hard one, I don't think there will be a problem with your fiance being a chiropractor, I love mine they do a world of good. I do not want to sound judgemental or cruel but I think you might have more of a problem with the doctors and the way they or other professionals act than they will with you. If you want to do it I say go for it. But also keeping in mind that the meds and following doctors orders (to and extent) are all part of it. You are in a tough situation and I hope it all works out for you :). Good Luck!!!

Do you say NICK_U or N-i-c-u?
I always say nick-u but most of the time I get a blank stare, so I end up having to explain anyway :) I wouldn't worry about sounding funny when you say it, either one should be fine.

Curious about the NICU
i am cuurently in nursing school and my dream is to become a nicu nurse and possibly a neonate practioner. i do not know a whole lot about the nicu and was wondering if anyone could just give me some information on it. i am looking at a hospital in colorado springs, memorial hospital so if anyone works there or knows anything about it i would love to hear it. also i was wondering about the levels, while searching about hospitals i found where they were hiring a level 3 nicu nurse, could anyone elaborate on the levels and what they are for me! thanks

Soooo, you're observing in the Operating Room (O.R.)...
Excellent post those things are all important. I had my OR rotation a couple of months ago and those are all things that you need to know. Very complete list. About the passing out, I had one doctor tell me if I started to feel funny to sit down on the floor because it was a long hard fall. I thought that was kind of funny so you know that it happens (fortunately I did not have to utilize his advise):)
