Biochem not a requirement

I'm not sure what "looks good on your app" means?

My husband is starting next month, and he does indeed have to take Biochem. Pretty much everyone I know who goes to WGU ends up having to take Biochem, so I would tell your friend that she should resign herself to taking it. It's not horrible, though. Everyone gets through it. She will too.

I just started the RN-BSN program in August of this year and was majorly stressing the biochem. I appealed the class before starting because I had read that previous chemistry classes counted for biochem. That is no longer the case. Biochem is required. To be brave and get biochem out of the way I selected it as my first class. It took me two weeks. I'm not going to say it was easy because you really do need to understand the material for the tasks, but it is completely doable! Two weeks means a lot of full days making models and drawing diagrams, and a lot of nights staying up late watching the Thinkwell lectures and working on PowerPoints, but it was well worth it. It was a great intro to competency-based learning and I challenged myself right from the start. Don't sweat the biochem, really. The great thing is there's no "test". Competence is demonstrated by finishing the tasks. It really isn't as horrible as many (myself included) think it is.

Thanks for the info about Biochem. I liked Biochem in high school, but I was feeling concerned about tests. Good to know that competence is demonstrated by task completion in this course.

Biochem IS definately a requirement. As of yesterday when I spoke to my admissions counselor.

Biochem is still a requirement, so make sure you take it. Save it until mid or toward end of your prereqs though just in case something changes with the requirements again. It seems as though at least 1x a year something changes a little with WGU's requirements.
