Becoming an LPN

Published

There is currently a two year wait for the RN program and I was thinking of becoming an LPN in the mean time. Anyone have any suggestions, good idea/bad idea?

thanks Danielle

I would go ahead and try for the LPN. I know where I am ...our LPN program is harder to get into than the RN. I am about to start the LPN program in May 2005 and I am just as nervous as I can be. The more experience you can get ahead of time...the better.

Good Luck.

I'd go for it. It'll give you a leg up in RN school.

Thanks for the advice, I take my placement test may 11.

Congrats...I will also start the LPN program in september. I am so scared too. The program was very competive also...only 18 slots and hundreds applied. I chose to enter this way...because it will be easy to enter the RN progam....they have a bridge program for LPNs.

I'm also taking the LVN route as the waiting lists are too long for me to sit through without at least getting my foot in the door! I'm hoping to start late summer and am very excited. Good luck to all of us!

Hi dani...i say go for the lpn program..i heard that if you were an lvn and decided to do the rn prog you have a greater advantage of being in the top of the waitin list...My sis is a lvn and she has a shorter wait in the list than the people who arent an lvn (the wait is usually 2-3 years)...Its always good to have money in the pocket when your in school :) I just finished my lpn prog and took the test in aprl5(sill no results yet) but it was really accelerated and a year seemed like a long deep breath..dont get me wrong there was definetly sum sacrifice going on but youll get through it..if i did it you can do it :p Good luck to whatever you may decide :)

Hi, I can't find an online LPN course, can you tell me which one you're taking?

Thanks

I love my LVN program and I am learning so much from it. I feel like I am really learning how to be the patient's advocate doing it this way. Eventually I'll get my RN but I'm not even thinking about that right now...I'm just trying to get through this! :D
