Hi,
I was wondering if anyone is attending or has attended the Becker College nursing program? I have read threads in the past that say this is not a good nursing program. I am hoping someone who has direct experience could shed some light on the program. Thanks!!

I think in the past their NCLEX pass rate has not been that high, in 2007 it was 76%, which is not horrible but not great either. I looked into their program and the price tag alone made me look elsewhere.

I know this is kind of late, but, I (as well as many others) are leaving Becker, for many reasons. First of all, it is NOT worth the price tag; the administration is less than polite and are always acting like they something more important to be doing, especially in the registrars office. They told me that they sent out my transcripts for my transfer applications and 3 months later I had to go personally pick up copies of my transcripts and mail them myself because coincidentally NONE of my transfer prospects received my records.
I've also heard that there are only enough clinical spots for about 1/3 of the nursing students for Fall 09.
In addition, the area that the campus is located in is less than desirable. Muggings, armed robberies, rapes, and even murders are the norm in the neighborhood.
Wow, Stephanieee.. thank you for your post. I never did apply because I didn't want my start into nursing at a school that doesn't have a good reputation in the area. I'm sorry to hear that you have to transfer out. Have you found another school?
I remember hearing a little while back about a murder on the campus, but I thought it was just one of those horrible things and not the norm. That's terrible.
Good luck to you!

My fiancee lived in the neighborhood near becker it's not as bad as stated.... but yeah I heard there pass rate isn't the best. Big price tag. The only + is they'll take anyone... Idk if that really is a plus. I am in my 4th semester of a ADN program @ mount wachussetts. They have a 90+% pass rate and there professors are awesome.
fabiusgile,
After all my searching, my first choice is MWCC. I'm anxiously waiting to hear if I get in. That's great that you really like the program. Do you know if they offer summer nursing courses or do they follow the standard fall, spring, fall, spring schedule? How do you like your clinicals? I can't wait to start!
They just have the standard fall spring... I think it may be different for the LPN program. My suggestion to you if you can do it is to apply for nights... There's only 2-3 main instructors that lecture which makes it easier to get used to what to expect on tests... I've heard that days on the other hand has 5-7 profs lecturing which l hear can be very confusing. I can't say anything bad about the night instructors.... It it boot camp ADN programs are not fun.
Yeah, I did apply to the evening program. I know it'll be a lot of work, but I'm excited. I can't wait to hear if I got in. I keep calling and they said next week we'll find out.

Hello Everyone! I am also wanting to apply to Becker College but from reading these posts, I am wondering if I should change my decision. Does anyone know someone specifically in the program I can speak to? Good Luck on all your nursing journeys!

my sister actually just looked into this as she is going back to school for nursing and I hope to after I finish my CNA certificate. Ther is no waiting list, as opposed to the other colleges around here and probably the reason fr that I because it's something like $40k a year! To me that seems a little outrageous! She has signed up for the RN program at quisig, which has a 2 year wait list but in te meantime is taking her pre-reqs so that when her time comes she'll only have to due the usual nursing classes.
Hey Jillian! Thats awesome that there is no waiting list for Becker...I am a little shaky about the program though because I checked the NCLEX passing rate for 2008 on the mass.gov website and it was about 69%
I really want to apply though because it seems like the fastest program to get into around the area since all the others have ridiculous waiting lists..I am a CNA also...are you planning on working at a nursing home when you finish? I think its great you're doing that because its the best way to get insight on what nurses do. BTW, becker is pretty expensive...is a private school or sthg?
