Banner Good Sam

I currently work at Good Sam, and it is a good hospital with good doctors.....but not really nurse friendly on the 11th floor.....so if you interview on that floor......go running as fast as you can......take my word.....I myself moved from Ohio and did the same thing you are doing. If you take the extra money, live in North Phoenix zipcodes provided....the rest of the zipcodes are in not so good areas. PM me with any questions

The whole 11th floor is ICU. I work ICU in Phoenix and have heard this info from several coworkers that have worked there. Based on my coworkers comments, I would not even apply there.

AMEN! I was hired for 11c/d and most people were so mean to me, then there was Julie who took over for the manager when her husband passed...wanted to write me up for looking to my preceptor when a patient started to go bad and it was my first time in the situation...and I did do a few things, but didn't know everything to do. No one would look at me to give me report, teach me things (only a few would if I asked), would complain I called on a temp of 103.5...go to CV or neuro instead if you want crictical care experience. The people on the other units seem to be a bit more into teaching.

Hi, Banner is AWESOME! I think they are like the 2nd largest employer in the state of AZ and its a magnet/teaching hospital. Banner has a really good rep in the community and is a non-profit hospital. Im going thru one of thier nursing programs and I love it so much! Good Sam is more in the down town phoenix area so like any other metropolis you get everythng that comes along with that but I always feel safe. I dont live around here though. I commute from Peoria which is about 17 miles away so no biggie! I really recommend you come to Banner if you want to have a good Nursing Career. Ive talked to a lot of different facilites that offer huge sign on bonuses and the facilities are a nightmare. I had a friend who worked for IASIS (St. Lukes) out here and she wa offered like $7500.00 sign on bonus and let me tell you... there was a reason why! I figure if its too good to be true something is wrong! Just be careful its all about what kind of career you want to have not the money and Im finding that out. I did a lot of homework on the facilites out here and I kept coming back to Banner, Im so happy.

That sucks you guys I didnt have that problem on that unit, I had a very positive experience there but when your a new grad or precepting you kinda just have to go with the flow and soak up as much as you can. Im very proactive about situations like that. I didnt have those issues. Sorry guys!

I am an experienced nurse and came to Good Sam when they offered me 9000 dollar sign on bonus, and it is 9000 for a reason like IASIS, because it isnt a friendly place. I have worked elsewhere and cannot wait till my contract from the 9000 is up so I can move on and not have to pay them back.

Hi.

I have been a Nurse Extern at Good Sam for the past year and a half (just found out this a.m. that I passed my board - yippee).

I chose the Rehabilitation Unit (in a seperate building diagonal to the main towers)because my sister has been an RN there for 9 years (started as a traveler) - we're both from PA.

If I can throw in my two cents - Rehab has been the best. Great DON, staff is like family. They're great to work for/with.

If I ask to switch preceptors, complain about people not giving me report, offer to switch some shifts to get more experience in swan insertions, intubating/extubating and am denied and dismissed then explain to me how to go with the flow. You need to learn everything you can in the ICU. If people go to a manager and complain that you called on a temp of 103.5 and no one offers you other solutions in that situation, if you have questions on why one drip works better than another and no one answers, if you ask to help people so you get more experience and team build and they out right refuse pray tell me how I dropped the ball and did wrong by such a great place.

That doesn't mean it is perfect - but most of the RN(s) are extremely helpful and management has never given me a problem. Docs are generally respectful. Some personalities don't mesh with the unit, but you will find that anywhere...Just one opinion in a sea of many.
