Sep 20, 20196 yr Hello, I thought I would start a thread for anyone that applied to AVC Rn program for spring 2020. I did and I’m trying to patiently wait.
Feb 28, 20206 yr Did you guys have an orientation before courses began? I saw that there is a to do list, I'm assuming health check, immunizations/titers, background check... Did you have a few set orientation days that were mandatory attendance? How many days a week are you in class and at clinicals? Sorry for all the questions!!

Yes there is a mandatory orientation before the program starts. I'm first semester and I have 2 lab days (clinical days) and 1 lecture day. If you know you're going to need an extension on certain things like the vaccines, let Ms. Waller know right away.

IDK if you still look at this forum but I was curious what books you needed for the first semester? I don't have the money to buy all the required books at once and I was hoping just to get the books I need for the first semester ?

So you need Fundamentals of Nursing by Taylor, Focus on Nursing Pharmacology by Karch, Nursing Care Plans by Gulanick, and the Davis Drug Guide to start. Theres an app for the drug guide that's free for 60 days then $38/yr, worth it. You can find a pdf of the fundamentals book for cheap, my friend did, I forget how much but def cheaper than the book itself. Read the chapters ahead of time, try to stay 2 weeks ahead on readings. Just read and then go back and take notes on the PPT from the book. Tables and Boxes are important. Know steps and mnemonics of things taught. If you have time, keep one page notes to review for the final. Highlight stuff you had difficulty with so you know what to focus on for the final. Best of luck! You got this! ?

I was nervous too! My first day went from 0-100 in like 2.5 seconds ? that's why I say to stay ahead with the readings ?I had Snyder and Parkinson for Fundamentals. The professors switch every semester or something like that. I've met Cota, she's nice! I'm not sure who Kilayko is yet.
Aug 3, 20205 yr Thanks so much for your quick response. Am nervous as well. Do not know what to focus right now, in terms of studying. I have Cota and her reviews are scary.

I'm not sure what your professors syllabus looks like but mine had the readings in the course content and the subjects we were covering in the syllabus, I put them together. If they require you to get prep u, I got it separately from the book, it was cheaper.

I was debating on waiting to purchase my books till then but I'm assuming no matter what I'll probably need those books that you mentioned! Did you wait until your orientation to purchase your books?

Also, I'd get the manual printed and binded. Better than carrying around so many loose leaf pages. ?

I was just hoping to find out what we just needed for the first semester and if the instructor would say what books she would be using just for that semester! ? Buying all 9 books at once is breaking the bank hahaha. Didn't realize how expensive it would be starting up!
