I have Asperger's and am quirky, but the patients love my bedside manner and knowledge base. No issues, other than the occasional employee who gives me a funny look when I don't know if she's making a joke or not.

Hello there. There is nothing wrong with having Asperger's and being in the medical field. It's a little uncommon, but there are nurses who have various forms of Autism. I am one. My Asperger's keeps me from hearing inflections in people's voice's and at times I can not tell when people are using sarcasm, however, it doesn't show as an obvious sign to my patients nor to their families unless I up and say it. We work around our disabilities for the better of our people and many times such disabilities make a teaching point for others. It takes time to learn how to be flexible and allow others to speak, but with enough practice a nurse with Asperger's can be a rather effective member of a nursing team.
