I am am currently a CNA student in California and will be applying to a nursing program right after. I have no clue which way I should go about this. I have no pre-reqs done so I have that to think about. But not sure if I should go for my ASN or just head straight for a BSN...Any word of advice??

If you can financially (and of course consider other factors, too, like family), by all means go for your BSN. That will open up a lot of opportunities for you and a lot of hospitals nowadays prefer a BSN-prepared nurse over an ADN.

BSN. Hospitals in my area are now requiring the ADN nurses they hire to get a BSN within 5 yrs of their employment. Good luck in the job market in Cali. A lot of my friends who graduated had to relocate d/t slim pickings for new grads.

BSN. You never really know if you will want to get a graduate degree in the future. I didn't until the end of my first year. Also, hospitals are moving toward BSN only (at least in my region). It'll also matter getting into being a charge nurse more easily (which matters to me cause I'm going to need to show responsibility when applying toward competitive programs).
I was thinking of going out of state too but I have an 11 year old and it would be pretty hard on him to switch to a new school... I'm definitely leaning more towards the BSN. Thank you guys for the feedback! I really appreciate it :)
