Asking to shadow?

I am wondering if it is OK/appropriate to ask to shadow in one of the EDs for my hospital system

I have applied to a different type of job elsewhere, and am waiting to hear back

I am having 2nd thoughts about accepting this position (I am anticipating being offered this job, which is a management position for outpatient case management), as I have always wanted to work in the ED and never have.

I work in the clinics affiliated w/this ED, and per diem at the sister hospital in the psych unit

I applied to, shadowed, and was unofficially offered a job in this ED by the manager about a year and a half ago

Since I had been at my current position for less than 6 mo, HR was not able to offer me the job

The ED is slated to close next fall (2019) and a lot of the more acute cases are being diverted to the sister hospital.

I am not sure how soon Ill be able to get in to shadow, but wanted to hear your thoughts

Why not ask for what you want? What are the downsides? I think getting to shadow provides a unique opportunity to actually see what kind of environment you might be working in. Go for it!

Thanks Amzy!! I ended up asking the manager, and she said yes !

YES! SHADOW please. I just learned this lesson going to urgent care and regret not shadowing, as I wasted two weeks of their time and mine for a job that I do not like.

So pleas, by all means ask them if you can shadow first!
