I am currently in the midst of completing my preqreqs for the nursing program at my college, which incidentally coincide with the prereqs for many nursing schools in the area. What I want to know is when I apply to the programs, will it be ok, in general, to apply during my last semester of prereqs (assuming I pass them all) or would I have to wait until I actually finish all of my classes?
Thanks! :]

I know at my school, when you apply for a program...there is an actual space on the application that asks what classes are you currently enrolled in? So, you should be able to get accepted without having actually completing them just yet.
For instance the only thing I am missing is A&P I & II, however I am attending a school in the Fall 09. I am taking I & II both over the summer, as long as I pass them both, I am in!
Good Luck!
It's called "Pre-Nursing", and YES youhave to apply EARLY.

I would say it depends on the school. In my school, if you want this summer, you have to apply by Feb 1. The courses you are taking now would not be included in your points. If you had enough points anyway, you could still be accepted. If not, you would be better off waiting.
I would check with the nursing dept of the schools you wish to apply to. Only they would have good information on that.
Good Luck to you!

The school I am at you can apply as soon as you have completed all of the weighted pre-req classes (pre-reqs where the gpa is taken into account for accpetance) and you will complete the other non-weighted pre-reqs before the next semester starts. For example, I'm taking my last weigthed pre-req this semester, application deadline is in May. I will take my last pre-reqs this summer and hopefully be accepted for the fall.

I know that when I was applying to nursing school they wouldn't let you be inrolled in classes and still apply...you had to be comletely finished and have your application all put together before you turned it in...but many schools are different and I would call them and ask them before you try doing it...

First you need to look at some colleges around where you live that offer a nursing program. then when you find some find out what the pre-requisits are to entering the program...then you have to finish the pre-reqs (which you can do at that college or a local community college), submit your application and wait to see if they accept you. If they do then you wait till the first day of class and off ya go! Hope this helps, these are the steps I was told to take and I did and I will be starting school here in a coulple of months!

Heather-A&P is Anatomy & Physiology
To the OP--It definitely varies by school. At my school you have to complete a huge checklist of things before you can even apply to our program. There is not a wait list, but it can take a while to complete the list so it is in itself a waiting list.

It does vary from school to school. Considering that the deadline for application is usually Jan-March, if you waited until you had completely finished everything, you'd end up sitting out for a quarter/semester or longer. The schools I applied to all said that pre reqs should be finished before you are scheduled to enter the program. Different schools set different end dates. Some say end of August, some say end of June, etc...
Also some schools want you to have a certain number of your science pre reqs completed before you apply. The University of Washington in Seattle wants applicants to have finished 3 of the 6 science courses before they apply to the program, so they can get a bead on how you are doing with those classes. I applied there for fall '09 and I only have the chemistry series to finish and a couple of liberal arts classes, and I'll be done with all my pre reqs by the end of August!
Good luck!
