Applying for ADN for the spring & found out that hospitals no longer hire ADN :(

Have you considered obtaining your BSN at some point? You could always work in a non-acute setting with your ADN and pursue your BSN is you want to get into a hospital setting.

Thank you RunBabyRun :) I have set my mind to do BSN :) Once I am done with my ADN and work for a while then start BSN :) R u trying to say that with my ADN I can work in like small clinic and gain some experience & go for BSN ?? It sounds great :) It's Okey if I get to work as a nurse after my ADN :)

Clinics, home health, hospice, private MD office, could look at local schools and corporate areas to see if they have on site RNs, many mobile health companies (such as go to companies to do heath screening, drug screening, health clinics, etc) hire ADNs...

there are tons of jobs outside the hospital.. you just have to look for them... ask other ADNs for recommendations on places to look. :)

Have you thought about relocating to a different city? There are still some hospitals that hire ADNs in TX.

It depends on the hospital. Have you actually researched the hospitals in your area or is this what someone told you? I would look on hospital websites. Rural hospitals tend to still hire ADNs. It's the big cities that are pushing the BSN envelope.

If you're in the Houston metro area, hospital jobs for ADNs are very scarce, especially for new grads. ADNs are being hired into non-acute settings. It's pretty much the same in most major metro areas in the state. Thank you HouTx for the link . I am applying Houston Community college; their passing % looks pretty good in last years. It seems to be getting bad in 2013. I really want to go to HCC as it is convenient for me. What would u suggest me in this situation looking at their 66% passing rate in 2013. Any suggestion will be great help.

I'm going to go to HCC this fall also for ADN and get BSN shortly thereafter. I just want to start working after getting ADN then deal with BSN later. I don't even know if hospital or working in the med center is where I want to be. Who knows! But it is disappointing to know we don't have much of a choice.

Even with a BSN, if you're a new grad with no experience it's not likely you'd be hired at a hospital anyway. Get your ADN and work wherever you can and then bridge. I think you still have a better chance that way than going straight BSN.
