has anyone been to or heard of...

hi! I have applied to a couple of school's in PA for nursing. one of them being UPMC Shadyside. have any of you gone there or heard anything good or bad about it? I currently live in Ohio, and the RN school's here have HUGE waiting lists every year. basically you can't get in for about an average of a 2 year wait. any suggestions or school's for me to look at would be great. i have no problem relocating especailly since Pittsburgh is only a 3-4hr drive away from my family. thanks everyone!:kiss

Shadyside has always had a good reputation in Pittsburgh area. I've met several of their nurses very active in PSNA over the years. Only heard good things. Good Luck!

:D thanks that's great! That is the school i'm pushing for the most. How are the UPMC hospital's? i'm thinking of doing the full tuition loan program, and signing a contract to work post graduation. But not being from there i'm uncertain of the area.

UPMC is the BIG hospital system here. I am not that impressed with their ethics personally. They pay well, and have decent benifits, but they are all about making money, and less concerned with their employees.

Western Pennsylvania Hospital also has a nursing program. (about 1 mile from Shadyside) It has a dorm too.

Good Luck

i'll check into western PA hospital...thanks for the insight!

Hi.

I currently work at UPMC Shadyside. I know the school has a good reputation and the graduating students have done really well in my unit. I know there is no real "waiting list" and even a generous scholarship if you commit to working there for (I think) two years after graduating.

Email me off list if you would like some names and numbers to contact for more information.

i'm a grad of upmc-shadyside, graduated 1997. We were the first class for upmc when the merger took place. I think the teachers were tops, clinical learning was emphasized. The teachers really treat you very individually and work hard to accommodate.

West penn is a top notch school as well. I'm now a charge nurse for a congestive heart failure unit in a large hospital system north of pittsburgh, they prepared me well.

hey thanks for the info! i was worried about it a little because i will have to move from ohio to PA if i get accepted and there has been some difference of opinions as far as a diploma RN vs. ASN were concerned!

thanks!
