I would apply to Grayson's LVN-to-RN transition program in a heartbeat, if only I was TSI exempt (which I am not).

Hello
I am not witing, but I did graduate in May from GCC RN program, I just wanted to say GCC is a good school, 30 of us have took the NCLEX and have passed most with 75 questions (including myself).
Most of had jobs before we even graduated.
GCC has instructors that really care about their students. T0ugh program but you willl know your stuff when you finish. You can get a job anywhere. Every job I applied I received a job offer. The Dallas metroplex love GCC grads.
Good luck I pray you get accepted.

I graduated from the LVN program in 2005 and the LVN-RN program in 2007. GCC is a great school. You will be well prepared when you finish. Just be prepared it is going to be difficult - the LVN program was very strict about things.

Is GCC a private college? How much is the tuition?
Thanks for all your support. I am still just trying to remain busy and hope for the best. I will keep everyone updated.
Grayson County is a Community College. I believe the entire LVN program is like $5,000 including books. You should check out their website and feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

I did not pay anywhere near $5000 that they quote on the info page. Tuition ran around $2300 - it is a community college, apply for scholarships and financial aid. Books around $500 - I purchased mine thru ebay, half.com, amazon etc & I only purchased what was absolutetly necessary (textbooks, drug book, NCLEX study guide). Uniforms - $100. Required skills kit $175.
Got my letter today....I was selected as alternate #13. I feel as though it is over. I really doubt that 12 people decline their spot. That would be stupid. Well, once I finish crying my tears away I will begin to work on plan B. Thank you all for your support.

Have you thought about applying to their RN program?

You may be surprised. Many people apply to both the LVN and the RN program at the same time, and plans change for people. There may be a chance for you to be accepted.

Arrica, don't give up! It is not uncommon for people to apply to multiple nursing schools and to get accepted at more than one. There will be a few people who will not accept their place. This is true of all nursing progams. I go to TCC, and I know that many people apply to UTA, Weatherford, TCC, and TCU in order to increase their chances of getting into nursing school. They can only go to one school, so they have to decline the other offers. In addition, there are usually a few people who have to put school off for work, family, finances, health, etc. I had to do this myself before entering nursing school because I ended up having a surgery that would have prevented me from being able to do clinicals. I did, however, use that semester to take classes such as Nutrition, Algebra, and Statistics that would apply towards a BSN.
Don't give up. How many people are accepted into the program? There may be 12 people who decline their spot. If not, could you take classes that would count towards your BSN until the next semester? I really hated having to do that, but now I'm really glad that I did. It turned out to be a great semester for me. I'm sorry that you're on the waiting list, but I hope things turn out well for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. :icon_hug:
Hello Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!
All my tears are gone and I am back in the saddle. LOL
Thank you all for your responses and encouragement. I have found hope though all of you and God. All applicants and alternates have to attend orientation and bring $250 for the Nursing Kit. Plus we have to have completed our shots and CPR. Please keep me in your prayers and once again thank you sooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
