Hey! I'm a new nurse working on a tele floor, and I just accepted a position for the CT ICU in the Feb. new grad program at UCLA. I live in SD now, so I'm gonna have to move, just wondering if anyone has any advice or if anyone else reading is going there? Thanks for your help!!!

I just got a New Grad job offer for their CTICU as well. I'm out of state (grew up in Ventura Co though) Still debating between a couple places. What have you all heard about the unit? Orientation? Shift diffs? Etc.
I accepted the offer for CTICU=) yayyy.. I also got a call today from Liver Transplant/SICU and they offered me a position as well! Im just very grateful to have been offered one at UCLA...:) Have you taken a tour of CTICU yet?
I haven't even been to the hospital yet! I will go tour the unit sometime next month though. What about you?
Hey superdave1222,
I took the tour of CTICU, seems like a very busy floor to work at and I met some of the staff and they seemed really nice. Are you considering other hospitals or have u decided to accept the offer from UCLA? Well enjoy the tour when you go!
I decided to take the job for sure, I was really impressed how inviting people were when I visited and how I saw them all work together. I can't wait!!! What did you guys all decide? And where are you going to be living???
I actually don't live that far from UCLA. I live about 17 miles south of UCLA. But just as an fyi, it took me almost 2 hours to get to my interview (rush hour traffic + accident that day)! I have lived in the LA area almost all my life, even though I don't enjoy the traffic...that is just how LA is. So if you are going to move, try to pick a place that is relatively close by (unless you don't mind the traffic:coollook:). Keep in mind Brentwood/Westwood area will be one of the more expensive areas to live in. Good luck with your housing search! I'm looking forward to meeting you in Feb!
Well looks like that's 3 of us. I accepted my offer into the CTICU as well. I live in AZ for three more weeks and found a place to live north of LA this past weekend. I've talked with the daytime charge a few times since the interview. Seems real cool. Anybody received anything official from HR yet or heard an "official" start date? I just hear sometime in February...
Definitely looking forward to meeting you two...
How exciting! How random that its gonna be us three and we already know each other! I just went up last week and I met Cheryl and a couple other staff members and talked to a nurse who just finished the last new grad program. Im still looking for a place to live, but I'm in SD so it's easier for me to go up and look. How did you find a place? I havent heard an official date yet either, but I talked to the educator I think it was the other day and he said they probably won't decide till after the holidays, and that it will prob be toward the end of the month and to make sure we schedule our immunization review and physical and to call them after. Is that what you heard? Send me a private of your actual email if you want, that way we can all coordinate and make sure we're hearing the same things!!!
Hey i know that is kind of nice that we already know at least 2 other people who will be there in Feb :). I heard the same thing as well. They said that HR had not set the official date and that it would be around mid to end of Feb.
I set up my appt for my physical in Jan but I wasn't able to schedule an appt for my new hire paperwork. Were they able to schedule you guys an appt for the new hire paperwork? I tried to set one up but they said they have not received the packet from the manager and to call back again. Let me know if you guys run into this as well :)
Looking forward to meeting you guys! I wish you both luck with the move to LA:)
