how about "the process of determining, deciding whether a person is or is not competent because of mental health problems"
What to expect when the antipsychotics are used. It's the recurrence of the psych problem that happens - so how to deal with this, plan for this.
What is the nursing role, the roles of the team members, when working with a psych patient?
Or understanding hallucinations (and how to treat this problem)
Is there a particular topic that is of interest to you?

Hi berry ~~
Something that was brought up in a recent post that caught my eye sparked my interest and it was regarding a homeless teen being d/c'd from the hospital.
I have a passion in this area (mental health).....in NS the mental health rotation is many students 1st exposure in this area...maybe your paper could be regarding that....
Let us know what you decide and how it goes:) GOOD luck:)
thanks for all of your advice!! :)
Im not really sure what my interest would be in psych, as I've only had 2 days in my psych rotation so far.... I really love it though....
so thanks! any more ideas?

How about how axis II diagnosis (borderline, antisocial, etc) impact behavior and treatment for axis I diagnosis (major depression, bipolar, etc).

Unfortunately..many people in health care do not understand the history of treating the mentally ill...this is very sad. It was not until many years later that I had the opportunity to work with nurses who took the time to explain the history of psychiatric care/or lack of. Then i did my own research and studies in my social work courses.
Where and what alot of these patients have been through would astound you. Until a few years ago..it was not uncommon for patients to be committed for 20-30 years for a dx such as bipolar or schizophrenia..two very treatable illnesses.
If you do a google search and look at the barbaric treatments done to these patients...you will never be the same. In the 50's alot of affluent families would turn their unruly teens over to the state...couldnt take the risk of being embarrased in front of friends/family. Check it out....
Good luck!!
