Any Interview tips here ? please.....

I am applying as a nurse assistant to a small town clinic.I am waiting for a schedule for an interview.This will be my first time to be interviewed formally for a job here in the US.Would like to ask some ideas. What are the typical questions that will be asked? Also, any idea about this strenght that I have read? Is this means our qualification?I go over some books, but there might be some practical experience from readers here that can help me.

Also, do i really have to be in a gray or black suit on meeting the CEO for my interview? as what I have read.

I hope to hear ideas here, and thanks in advance.

I agree with the firm handshake....I'd disagree with the answer right away bit though. I would say to take a thoughtful pause, and answer with a confident, concise response. It's not a paper where a lengthy answer gets you more credit :-)

Also, this sounds basic, but remember your formal manners.....all the ones your Mother probably nagged you about. Sit up straight, don't use slang, answer yes/no questions with a yes or no...not uh huh or yup....depending on what part of the country you're in, you might even add a sir or mam to that yes or no. Sit with your feet flat on the floor, don't fidget, don't put your elbows on the table/desk, etc Hold open doors for folks say please and thank you, etc. Send a thank you note to the interviewer after.

As a hiring manager I was always amazed at how few folks displayed basic manners in an interview.

  • how do you manage stress on a job?
  • describe a situation where you showed compassion and sympathy for another individual.
  • how do you react when someone criticizes you?

  • what is the most difficult communication problem you have had on other jobs?

  • what have you learned from your mistakes?

  • what do you think about policies and rules?

  • what do you do when you have a problem at work?

  • what is the most boring task you have ever performed? how did you manage it?

  • what is the most interesting task you have ever performed? how did you manage it?

  • tell me about your last supervisor.

no. just be dressed neatly in clean clothes and have taken a shower.

I used to hire high tech employees, working as a recruiter. Here are a few things that I looked for that some may not notice. I always noticed cleanliness. Were the fingernails clean and neatly filed. I looked at shoes, were they scuffed or neat. Was the candidate prepared? Pen and paper, thoughtful questions about the job or qualifications necessary. I noticed if the candidate used proper grammar. While some may argue that clean bodies or clean shoes are superficial they really tell a person about your attention to detail and care. If you don't take care of the most basic of things such as clean nails on an interview, I had serious doubts that you would give the attention to important details on the job. Of course, I looked at resume and job history first. These were just a few of the particular things I looked for when interviewing a candidate. The other thing is that I wanted the candidate to look me in the eye when speaking to me. (BTW, I ask this of my own kids and other kids that speak to me). I think that far too few people look you in the eye confidently these days and it shows confidence and respect. Try to get rid of all the "ums" when speaking or answering questions. This is good for public speaking also. Um, Um, Um, drives me crazy! Most importantly, relax and be yourself. Good luck!

Oh one more thing...

A man interviewed at my husbands company recently. He was a high level (very high) ex-employee that was interviewing to come back to the company. He actually was one of the original founders that retired for several year and wanted to come back. He was pretty much a shoe-in.

To be fair, they interviewed other candidates as well. It came down to the this man and one other. The other candidate ended up getting the job because the first one (ex-employee) didn't wear a suit and they thought he was a bit too lax and over confident.

I always say, go the extra effort in what you wear. One classic black suit can be bought pretty cheaply and will always come in handy-funerals, weddings, and interviews!

I wanted to say something about "eye contact". You have to know that in some other culture like mine it considerd ruddnes to look to people in the eyes like your boss ,parents but not friends . I know this is AMERICA but it takes alot of time to learn and adabt .PLease as a RECRUITER look for that on the application too, Is this the first job in the USA? . IT took me over 2years to get rid of this habit. DO not punish us for some thing we can't but we are trying to change it!!!! Eye contact has nothing to do with honesty, confidence, or all that!!!!!
