Any Ideas

hi there,

i am a UK nurse who has sat the NCLEX, passed and has a US new mexico licence. it expires at the end of May and i was wondering how do i renew it. i found a form on their site however it asks for social security number at the end which i dont have. i emailed the state but they have not yet got back to me. does anyone know what other foreign nurses do?

thanks for reading, hope you can help

I don't have any experience with your issue or any bright ideas other than just turning the form in without a social security number. I suggest this because some Americans don't even have a SSN. I'm not sure if it's required to get one issued to you yet or not...but that's besides the point. If the board is slow to reply via email, try calling. I know it's very long distance for you, but it may be necessary. I wish you luck with this!

PS...I'd try posting this thread on the international nurses forum, you may get more results quicker.

I believe an SSN is required to work in the US. How did you get your license without it?

hi there,

i have not yet reached the US yet with waiting for immigration so im not in the US yet. you have to have a US licence to work before you can apply for immigration and can not get a SSN until you have immigration through. hope ive made sense.:)

thank you for your reply, indeed i have thought of both of these options. if dont send it with a SSN and they count the form invalid im was afraid id not get my licence renewed in time before it expired. i think i will give them a call.

thank you again

Everyl legal American has a SSN#. It is needed for about anything here.

It wasn't always that way, though, which was my point. I was hoping to point out the *chance* (an off chance, but still...) that the paperwork may go through without it, provided all other legal numbers (license, visa) are legit.

my new mexico licence was renewed last year but my agency did it for me, i dont have an ssn as i am still in the uk

I'll need to do mine come the end of this year - I won't have an SS# either. I'm sure they're getting used to this with retrogression having been going for so long now.
