Okay I am doing my saunders and came across something i dont agree with. what do you think?
You are a new nurse about to do care for the following client with a gown and gloves only!!! who are you planning to provide care for?
TB patient---obviously you need a respirator
RSV--highly contagious i know
Pertussis which is droplet and whooping cough
Influenza???
what do you think

honestly this is tricky! maybe influenza is the right answer because i know they always tell those patients to keep their hands clean, cover their mouth and dispose the tissues they use for blowing their nose. maybe the flu patient has a lot of secretions from the nose and mouth which could also transmit the virus....perhaps??? lol i know for sure that for the first 3 u will definately need more than a gown and gloves
what answer did they say was correct?
influenza

Whooping cough would be my guess.
You should be immune if you have had shots.
Influenza...you have no idea of what strain it is.
RSV...most people have had this already by the time they are 2 or 3 years old...but I would say that you would need more than a gown and gloves for this one.

Weird as this sounds I think it is RSV for some reason.

I believe the answer is RSV. I think that's just standard precautions.

Examples of infections that require Droplet Precautions are meningococcal meningitis, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and pertussis. The following measures are required for Droplet Precautions.
Examples of infections that are spread by the contact route are multiply antibiotic*resistant bacteria such as methicillin*resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin*resistant enterococcus (VRE), RSV (which also requires Droplet Precautions), and Clostridium difficile enterocolitis.
Examples of diseases that require Airborne Precautions are tuberculosis (TB), varicella (chickenpox), zoster (shingles), and measles.

According to the CDC, RSV is under Contact precautions, so that would be my answer.

I guessed influenza just by ruling out the other options (or at least 2 of them). What kind of precautions are needed for influenza (droplet, contact, airborne, etc???)
Influenza is droplet.

The answer is RSV, its contact, which requires gown and gloves

Yep it's RSV because it's contact. No mask needed
