I got pick from the waitlist and I got my acceptance letter from Clayton State University yesterday. :roll I am so excited however I kind of caught in dilemmia on my choices.
I am also accepted in North Georgia College and State for a ASN however Clayton State is a BSN program. They both are two years to complete. with NGCSU I would only have to go to school to two to three days and week whereas Clayton it is everyday. I currently have 62 credit hours so I am trying to figure out which will be best for me being though I have a 2 and 4 year old. Are they both going to equally consuming programs. I also Clayton is 17 miles from me and NGSCU is 54 miles and some of NGCSU clinicals sites are 74 miles. What would you do in my situation? Has anyone been my situation what did you choose and why? Is it better to get the BSN over ASN if given the opportunity?

This is just my opinion i have never been in the situation you are in, I'm thankful i got into one program(taken off the alternate list). The big thing would be that you do have children and if Clayton is only 17 miles away then it would be better for you because GOD FORBID something happen to one of your children or they needed you for any reason you'd be close enough to get there in a reasonable amount of time. Also if the BSN is going to take you just as long to complete the ASN then just do they BSN I'm sure like many you would go back for it anyway. Again just MHO..whatever you do GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATULATIONS

First of all CONGRATULATIONS!
I agree with Andy, I would go for the college that is closer to home.
You cannot go wrong with a BSN program and even though the program requires you to attend everyday, it will be worth it in the long run.
Also, if the other college/clinical sights are so far away, you will spend just as much time away from home commuting (not to mention gas prices).
I have a 1 and 3 year old, so my heart goes out to you. I am sure you will make the right decision for yourself and your family!
GOOD LUCK!!!!

Congrats to being accepted to both! So many people would love to have your dilemma! In the long run, the BSN would be better. Is there a huge cost difference between the two schools? Having class 50 some miles away and clinicals 74 miles away is pretty far, especially if you come out and realize there is a few inches of snow that has fallen, and now you will take even longer to get home. (I don't know where you live, if that is an issue or not, but where I am from we get snow, freezing rain and ice from Oct-Aprl) More importantly, do you work? It would be hard to work and go to school everyday. Good luck with your decision. Let us know what you decide!

pick the one that does not require to be at school everyday! bsn is better over asn, but the one you applied to requires an everyday attendance. once you fininsh asn and start working then you can go for bachelorsat your own pace, please do not overwhelm yourself. for now asn would do, you'll drive further but is not going to be everyday. one thing that is told in the nursing school orientation is to prepare ahead of time so in case something comes up you know what to do, this is one of the principals in nursing. If going to school every day is not an issue for you, and if there isn't a large difference in costs, I say go for the BSN!! Based on what you posted about the two programs, the BSN program seems to be in a more convenient location, you're not out any more time, and that degree will give you more options. Good luck whatever you decide. Isn't it great to have options?!
Thanks for all of your responses.
GooeyRN: No, Currently I am not working I quit my corporate job at a fortune 500 organization to pursuing changing careers into Nursing fulltime. I also wanting a smooth transitions with my family and Nursing school.
The reason I am asking about determining between the two schools because I want to make the right decision not only for me but for my family as well. I appreciate all of the support that I receive from all the special individuals that are and will represent the elite career of Nursing. Please feel free to leave anymore advice or suggestions.
Best Regards!

Go for the BSN. It's closer, takes the same amount of time and if anything happens to your kids, you can be there. In the future, the ANA wants to have a BSN as a minimum degree (that's another discussion), and a BSN can open more doors toward management and leadership positions should you decide to go that route.
You don't mention what you're doing for daycare, but it sounds like you also have a partner to help out if needed. Good luck!
Yes I have my Husband as support with the kids sometimes his job requires him to travel so I am just planning for the future. With BSN program my longest days are the clinicals days and the rest of week out of classes by 2:30 whereas the ASN One day class is from 8:30-12:30 and clinicals 6:30-possibly 3. I would have to leave my house at 5:00 am to get to the clinical depending on if that site is one that is 74 miles. BSN clincial sites are within 20-40 miles of my house. The ASN doesn't require as many days of class interaction.
good luck! and please don't forget to let us know how it goes, for i'm sure i'll be needing every bit of info.
