Anatomy Classes

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I'm currently going to school at Sierra College in Rocklin, CA.

Why don't colleges offer more a&p classes??? I feel like I'm never going to get into the class since there are so few open... It's only day one of registration and I'm watching the classes fill up already. I can't sign up for classes until Sunday... Is it this way at every school?

It depends. My school offers a ton of 101 classes, fewer 102 classes, and only a couple of 201 classes. Reason being is that so many drop out after getting a taste of 101 not many make it to the others.

I spoke to a counselor yesterday about it, and she said I could always try to add the class too if it's full. I'm just concerned about the wait list... Each class has a 20 person wait list. The teacher only has to honor it on day one though... Has anyone ever had luck adding into anatomy?

I would definitely check daily because last semester I had to drop my A&P class at the last minute and it didn't take long for someone to snatch it up! We don't have too many A&P classes either, a couple during the day and a couple at night. Registration just opened for us last week and 2 of the classes are already full.

Thank you for that advice! I've already been checking nearly every 5 minutes... :nailbiting: Registration started this morning, and there are 120 spots for the anatomy teacher I want. There are already 25 people signed up, and i have to wait until Sunday morning! So discouraging.

A&P is a core for all health-related majors so it's not surprising that it's filling up. But you should be able to get in, just stay on top of your registration time to the exact millisecond. Even if it does get full, people that drop that class all the time...

I'm sure this is common for every school. I'm current in basic human anatomy at VCU and it's so hard to get into the class: you have to be a specific major or have an approved degree track, and then you have to register before everyone else gets to. I actually had to get a health adviser to add pre-nursing track to my degree just so I could register for the class.. (I was freaking out xD). I feel the worst for non-degree seeking students because they are prioritized at the bottom of the professors' lists and have to attend all of the open labs the first week to try to get into one, in the off chance that someone doesn't show up to class on time or drops the class. And then from there they choose based on which student has the highest GPA and if they have taken the class before or not.

On the day payment is due, our school opens the classes back up because so many people sign up for classes they can't afford. The sciences are always the classes that fill up first, but on that payment day, there are always a few that open up.

Thanks everyone. As of right now, there are 77 open spots left of 120... I'll keep my fingers crossed that come Sunday morning there will be a spot for me. Or at least a spot on the wait list.

Yes! At least at my school. It sucks if you're a first semester freshie, because you get last pick and usually by then everything good is full. It sucks!

I forgot to add....make sure you stalk your schools website, because people drop classes all the time!

If by chance you can't get in the waitlist, just show up the first day to as many labs as you can. If you are persistent and have your transcripts to show you meet the prereqs, you can usually get in. (Based on personal experience)
