Am I crazy???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

:pumpiron: I have decided to take Micro, Statistics and Sociology at my University along with the Pharmacology, Med/Surg and Geriatric nursing at my Private LPN school this spring. As of right now (Fall 06) at the university i'm taking A&P2 along with A&P, Nutrition and Fundamentals at the Lpn schol. I'm doing very well in all of my classes but I don't have a clue about Statistics and Micro is a science which is always a bit more difficult. What do you guys think?????:chair:

I think this is way to much. Micro was very hard for me , very time consuming. Stats I have never taken but it is a class I am committing one whole semester by itself to. I hear its a different type of math but unless you are very good at math I would not take this with such a load. Pharm and med-surg are classes you need to put a lot of study time into. These are not easy courses. Do not underestimate your nursing courses they will take you in a ride you have never been on.... My personal opinion is to at the most take Soc at the university ,forget everything else (until you are done with LPN school) and focus on finishing on getting out of LPN school. You don't want to put yourself in a position to fail. ... Just my opinion...good luck to you......

Way too much. I am surprised a counselor didn't intervene when you signed up for that much.

Did you ask a counselor/adviser at either school what they thought? Are you really taking both A&Ps at the same time right now? I think your current courseload sounds like a bit much as well, but 3 nursing classes is a full load for most people. As far as those non-nursing classes, I thought micro was VERY time-consuming, but interesting and not hard to understand. Just a TON of stuff to memorize. Pharm is probably the same way. I didn't find statisitics difficult, but I'm a math person. If you are good at math, you'll be good at stat. If not, it might be killer too. Also, mine had a lab - does yours? Sociology isn't usually too tough, but you will have to study for every class. Why do you feel like you have to take so much? You're trying to get your BSN prereqs out of the way it looks like - I'm guessing there is no way you can put the LPN degree on hold and go for the BSN or ADN right now? If you can't, then you need to at least drop micro, I think. That really does sound like an impossible courseload. Even if sociology isn't a "hard" class, you don't want to fall into the trap many do and think it's all intuitive and you don't need to study, then you wind up with a C. That's just my .02, you don't want to overstretch yourself, and wind up with either bad grades in prereqs or not learnng your nursing materials thoroughly. Good luck in whatever you decide!!

I agree that you need to drop something. Sounds like your goal is to move into an LPN to RN program quickly, but that's entirely too much. Drop either the Stats or the Micro. as those are both time consuming classes. All of your classes and your sanity are going to suffer, so to answer your question "yes, you are crazy".

Anything is possible and when there's a will there's a way, but my honest opinion is that it's too much.

I haven't taken Micro yet but did take Stats. It is tough, and takes a lot of time. I have ALWAYS been a good math student, I never got less than a B in anything that has to do with math including Chem., but in Stats I got a C, and I was happy with that. It is like abstract math. That is the only way I can describe it. If you have a lot of time to study and devote to homework (or do you work, or have a family that needs you) then I would really think about lightening my load.

If your school's anything like mine, these classes decide whether your in the RN program, or for you,the LPN to RN bridge program. These grades need to be an A in order to compete for a spot. For me micro was especially time consuming, and I thought was harder than A&P. I'm sure your pretty smart and organized to be doing so well at your LPN program and A&P but I'd hate for your grades to suffer trying to take too much.

Thanks a lot guys you have helpes me a lot!!!!!!

I have decided to drop Statistics.

I'm gonna keep Micro and Sociology.

Thanks alot for all the support and advice.

Pharmacology alone kicked my butt. I did take it in a short 4 week semester this summer, but it is my only B so far, so that and Micro would probably be the end of my sanity. I have yet to take Micro, but with all I have heard, that one is better taken alone. That is my plan next semester, as it is my last class to take.

Good luck.
