Alternate status

Published

I received my letter today stating that I am accepted as an alternate, which doesn't mean a lot to me at the moment. I am disappointed and upset, but trying to remain optimistic. I know there are 12 alternates, but for some reason I did not ask the order. Not sure they would tell me anyway. So I need some thoughts or knowledge from all of you. Has anyone been accepted as an alternate? How likely is this to happen? Doesn't 12 alternates seem like a high number? Do that many people drop? ok, I'll stop rambling now.

I'm not sure if you are talking about from Ivy Tech...but if you are, I saw on my acceptance letter that if we were not present at the orientation that an alternate was given our place. I'm sorry, but I will be there:bluecry1:, but I am sure that some wont!:p If I were you, I would be at that orientation!!!!! (with the $80 fee!!!) and even if you aren't allowed in, I would sit outside the door until the last person was gone and run in to see if enough people had not shown up. Just my opinion, but good luck to you! (did you apply for the LPN program?)

Thanks coltsgirl. This is for Ivy Tech. They told me that I had to be present at both oreintations. I am just really hoping that people applied to more than one school and chose a different school. You can bet I will be praying daily for a spot!

a word of encouragement--- i know of someone who was alternate #13. she joked about it being lucky #13 because she did get into the ASN program!!

maybe people applied to multiple campuses, maybe their financial aid didnt come thru, maybe they reconsidered their career path... who knows, just keep you head up and you'll be surprised how things can work themselves out.

what do you mean by "both orientations"- i am aware of the one on june 26th.

are you an alternate for LPN of ASN?

i'll keep my fingers crossed :)

I really appreciate the encouragement. I really need it right now. I sent an email to see if they would tell me what rank I am in on the list. Columbus has two dates scheduled. July 15 and August 19. They told me to be at both. I am not sure how this works...what school are you with? I am an alternate for the ASN. BTW cross your legs, your eyes, and anything else you can think of... :)

i am going to indy- lawrence for the ASN program.

i think an email can't hurt. i hope they respond.

good luck and keep us informed!! :)

I wouldn't worry too much! There will be quite a few people that for whatever reason don't go through with the program. Be it financial, family issues, multiple acceptance letters and choosing a different school, and the list goes on. Alternate is still a good thing!!! Good luck!!!!

Just want to give you some hope.....I was an alternate for the LPN to ASN program and I was called to join the class 2 weeks after I got the alternate letter. I just graduated from the program in May and am waiting to take my boards.

I know a lot of people apply to numerous locations to up their odds. Many will decline spots at their #2 and down choices, so there is plenty of opportunity to get in.

Good Luck!!

I'm in the same boat as you pretty much. I missed the LPN program by 2 spots. Hopefully those two people decide to not enter the program. haha. I'm still waiting to here back from Gary, which is going to be a long wait. They "hope to mail out the letters sometime this month."

In Spring 2005 I applied for Ivy Tech Fall nursing but did not have enough of the pre-reqs points completed. I was not able to get in, so I transfered, in Fall of 06 IVY Tech accepted me and I didnt even apply, my name must have still been on the list of alternates. I told them I was a current student at USF and thank you but no thanks.

Spring of 07 whoo hoo I got into Ivy Tech again!!! I called and told them Thank you but I am almost done with USF and wont be attending Ivy Tech.

Fall of 07 you guessed it, I got in again....this time it was almost comical. I told them I was too busy preparing for my boards to start nursing school over again!!!! Gee I wonder if I will get in next year??? lol lol.

So no fear, I think their list are pretty full of people who will not be attending for various reasons.

Good luck on your exciting future!!!!

Any news yet Icaria? I was #3 on the alternate list through Ivy Tech, and got a call 2 weeks later. I also emailed and asked my rank, they told me right away. I now only have the rest of summer and fall semester to go for my RN (LPN transition) It's rough-I eat, sleep, drink, and shower (and other things) thinking about school, care plans, homework, etc. It's crazy! I am sooo ready to be done. Good luck-let us know if you made it! Jen

i wanted to thank all of you for your encouragement. i really need it. the last two weeks have been crazy. my son caught the rotavirus and was in the hospital. it was awful, but it kept my mind off of this. i have not heard anything yet. i did ask what number i was of the 12 and they said i would not find out until july 15th. friday was the deadline for accepting so i am going to be on pins and needles over the next week. i missed two weeks of my accelerated micro class so i am cramming big time. my prof is awesome. she is letting me makeup my quiz's, which means i have 4 quiz's on monday...ugh! everyone say a little pray for me. i would hate to sit out another semester. i have everything completed besides clinicals. and i would really hate to take psychology over. i got a b in it before, but with an extra 10 points for an a i should get in with no problem. ok i am rambling. thanks again!
