So I will reach the 2 years experience mark in February 2014. I am planning 2 things once I reach there, get my board certification and look for a new job.
What advice can you give me on studying and obtaining my certification? Right now I am just planning to study this program and then take the test: http://store.healthstream.com/product.aspx?zpid=36279
Also, how much, if at all, does this certification help in finding new work? I am planning to move across the country and want the best opportunity I can.

I would certainly give a certified nurse's application more consideration
Thank you for the reply. What other things could I do to make myself more appealing to employers?

I'm certified and also help in the hiring process. Certified nurses do stand out over those that are not, because it shows a higher level of education and dedication to the profession, IMO.

I am a member of AMSN and am certified, it was a professional goal for me. Also as a staff educator I felt it was beneficial to certify in my speciality of med surg just as there are CCRN, CEN etc. I do believe it gives you a higher level of credibility.

I just got certified about two weeks ago. I am glad to see you are going with the CMSRN. I agree with the other comments that it will help you a lot with getting hired. It just puts you above the crowd. I am a pretty average test taker. I did not take this course that you are referring to. I took the one offered by ed4nurses.com but yours looks to maybe be more updated. For me the course allowed me to narrow down what to focus on for the exam. I would still recommend purchasing the two books from AMSN and going over the major disease processes. If it helps, the test was not as hard as I thought it would be. I did study a lot for it because I did not want to take it again. Anything else just PM me. Hope this helps and good luck.

Any opinions on getting the CMSRN vs. the RN-BC in Med-Surg through ANCC?
Thanks!

I am interested in this as well. I would like to know which association is more professional and offers more growth/continuing education.
IMO, there is no difference. The ANCC is more expensive I know. Two co-workers took the ANCC and they said it focused more on the legalities of nursing, whereas AMSN focuses on systems and pathophysiology.

Can any of you recommend which study material was the most helpful? I am trying to study without spending a fortune on books that won't help! Any resources for free practice questions?
