Advice for future NP Students

Try and complete a gross anatomy class if you can. I can't stress this enough. NPs do not know anatomy at the level of a PA or MD. It's honestly embarrassing and if you want to practice competently then it will only be to your benefit. Plus, it will put you ahead of other NP graduates.

Other than that, decide what kind of NP you want to be and go for it. If you want to work in a specific specialty, then go for the NP concentration that will prepare you for that. This will also put you ahead of other NPs when applying for jobs.

I'm glad to hear that will not be wasted!:) to gain a speciality is that a post graduate certificate? Or is it preferred to specialize while working gaining experience before NP School? When you apply to an MSN program, you must apply for a "specialty:" ACANP, ACPNP, FNP, AGPCNP, etc. Right now, you are still in your ADN program. Wait until you have done some clinical rotations to get a feel for what you like and don't like. Good luck.

My advice is to understand there is no absolutely true and correct career advice. You're going to hear many conflicting opinons: ADN vs BSN vs MSN; starting in Med-surg first vs Specialty; getting experiece first vs going directly to NP school. Ask questions but be aware 99% of time responses are based on tradition, custom, or one person's anecdotes. Weigh it accordingly. At the end of the day, make your decisions based on what's best for you and your circumstances.
