Advice about ADN

i will be starting ADN program next year..... but my question is this.... i currently got my BA in Management/H.R. with a minor in Biochemistry.... i was looking into law school but other stuff came up so now nursing school is my only option for now...... if i get my ADN will my BA help me out in any way when i apply for jobs?

hey coriaa1.. i have a bachelor's in business and an adn in nursing but unfotunately that has not helped me out in my job search.. i graduated last may and passed my boards but it seems like hospitals prefer BSN's to ADN's regardless of whether or not you have a bachelor's in another area.. i have encountered many hospital websites that post "BSN preferred" and have learned that recuriters weed out applicants that do not have BSN's since they have more than 500+ applying to their new grad positions.. my advice to you is to get experience by volunteering whenever you can or possibly getting a job as a CNA before graduating..hopefully the economy will get better by the time you graduate and this won't be a problem for you.. good luck with school.. and even though it's hard for everyone to find a job right now, i'm still glad i'm a nurse because i wouldn't want to be doing anything else.. hope this helps :wink2:

Really I have friends who completed their adn programs n friends who have completed completed their bsn. The ones with the adn are the ones getting jobs sooner than those with their bsn. Where in Cali are you? I'm in the inland empire. Valley college nurses find jobs right away after graduation without a problem. P s what was your concentration in business? I have talked to a nurse with a Phd from long beach n she told that it will help me. I talked to her yesterday.

As far as nurses with BSN getting preference over ADN, I have not seen that. In fact in my unit ADNs outnumber by far the BSNs. I used to hear that the BSN would be the person to get the charge nurse role but I haven't seen that either. I have been a nurse a little over 16 months and they have me stepping into charge nurse. I believe at least on my unit that they look at the individual not just at the initials after their name. It certainly can not hurt you to have the degree as with the competition for jobs is heating up any and all cards play so to speak.

my advice to you, since you already have your BA in management, why dont you just do an accelerated program? although there are pros and cons about doing this, youd get your BSN that way! i dont know your situation, but i dont think that the waiting list for that is long at all. you just need to check with universities that are close to you...

yea im number 97 so im just going to wait it out, i prefer valley over rcc anyday. valley has a great program

More education never hurts. If you compare resumes with your classmates, and base it off your nursing education, everyone is on equal par unless you have prior health care experience.

Having that BA/BS from a prior education will give your more to stand on. I'm pretty sure my BS in biology helped me get my job and possibly separate me from other new grads in the job hunt.

Does anyone know how many students SBVC accepts into their program every semester? Just trying to figure out what my waitlist position means for me.
