Advantages of E-books?

Hello,

I am starting nursing school in the fall. I've been researching e-books and found most people dislike them.

However, I've gotten straight A's in pre-reqs and what I did was create study outlines of all information I needed from textbooks/notes. I never did any highlighting. I'm really liking the copy and paste feature of e-books and feel that this will be a huge time saver.

Also I found a website that gives you permanent copies, ability to highlight, take notes, and use on all different platforms (PC, laptop, tablets etc).

Any comments?

advantages: you can cut and paste text from the book, less back pain.

disadvantages: pdfs are unpredictable - when I try to scroll a page, sometimes it moves several pages or jumps around. Downloads and switching between chapters is slow. Scrolling can also be incredibly slow on a tablet, staring at a screen for hours is hard on the eyes.

I'm a heavy PC user so I will probably operate the e-book quickly. Also I'll download some good programs to read the e-book.

Although copying and pasting will save time, you were actually actively studying as you typed up and created the outlines, so you may be actually hindering yourself by choosing to simply copy and paste. I think e-books are a great resource, and everyone learns differently. If they work for you then go for it, but don't use them as study shortcuts because it'll only harm you in the long run. Good luck!

Yea, good point. Was thinking this myself. Typing out the outlines helped tactile learning.

Depends on the program. My first experience with ebooks was BAD!!!! Half the time none of the commands worked and it never kept track of where I was when I logged back in to continue. I am using Vital Bookshelf now and LOVE it!!!!! Being able to search for something is easier than using the index 'cause you get all the references throughout the book. Also, once downloaded to a computer or mobile device, you have access to the book for 5 years...at least through my school it is.
