I am currently a pre nursing student, I am finishing my last pre requisite this semester (Physiology) and after I can start applying to nursing programs for fall 2022 next year. I have been looking and reading about many colleges and it seems to me most use this “Multi-Criteria Selection Process”.
I am 20, a second year college student at a community college finishing pre reqs. My question is, are there colleges that don’t use this selection process?
The reason I ask... I don’t have any degrees, I’m not military, I don’t have any points from hardship or refugee etc. I don’t have any certificates or hours in a hospital so for the most part I’m only averaging like 68-78 points on this type of selection process which doesn't make me the most competitive. I am expected to finish with a 4.0 in science and overall, 90+ on TEAS and Spanish second language.
I’m looking for colleges that don’t do this or where I can be more competitive, hence why I’m also looking for lottery’s as those I have a random chance of getting in. Please let me know if you know of any colleges you can think of that don’t use that process and are lottery or where you think my application can be strong. Thank you!

Where are you located? I’m in Los Angeles and I was also afraid of not getting into any schools after reading all of the posts on here, but then I ended up getting into both of the programs that I applied to immediately without being waitlisted. I don’t have any volunteer or work experience, nor do I speak a second language, no degrees, and no military experience. I had a 3.95 cumulative and 4.0 science and 89.3% on my TEAS. So I think as long as you keep getting A’s then you should be fine.

I’m also located in Los Angeles. First off, congratulations! Im very happy to hear you got into the two you applied too. If you don’t mind me asking what colleges were those?
I got into College of the Canyons and LA Harbor College. I also talked to a nursing guidance counselor at Santa Monica College before I applied and it sounded like they care more about grades than work experience, so that’s another school you could try. CSULB definitely looks at GPA and TEAS over experience, pretty sure Long Beach City College picks almost everyone from a lottery, and I THINK Glendale City College is another school that doesn’t count work experience as much as the other schools.
If you're still nervous about not getting in, then you can get a CNA license and that'll give you extra points at a few of the schools.

Oh nice! College of the canyons seems like one that favors GPA and TEAS most which I like. Glendale is also a full lottery which can be good to an extent LOL, I also looked into all the other schools and they do seem like good options too. I’m going to pry apply to like 18 schools all near me and will definitely apply to those you mentioned. Thanks for the help and the advice I really appreciate it!

I didn't have any advantage but completed prerequisites/required classes, TEAS, and was a CNA. Nursing student here. One more semester to go. I'll be done. ?

Congrats! I’m very happy for you! How many hours of volunteer experience did you have applying as a CNA?

Thank you. I worked as a caregiver for two years, volunteered in a hospital for about a year, and worked as a CNA for about 6 years--primarily in SNF with post acute hospitalization and ventilator.

Oh wow, that’s a lot of volunteering and experience!
