ACLS or CPR traning?

you are just beginnning an LPN program? or just finished? (sorry, long day, dunno if i read your post right)

don't take ACLS until after you graduate and get a job, they will most of the time pay for it, and sometimes even throw in a 12 lead class if it is required for your floor. ACLS is a complicated course that will make much more sense to you when you finish nursing school.

for school, look up BLS classes. that is basic life support--CPR, heimlich, basic s/sx of stroke, etc... that is something you can take now that will benefit you. some schools require it beforehand, some allow time during the program to obtain it.

Ok, its been awhile since I have posted. Just trying to get the family and household in order before class start in June. But this is my Biggest hurdle is I still havent gotten my cpr/acls certification. I was under the impression that I needed the cpr but after the first orientation I was told it was the ACLS. Now they refer to americanheart.org but all the classes are almost $300:imbar for the ACLS. I wanted to know if the cpr cert. would be just as good, or if anyone has gotten the certification for free or less than $300 pleassssseee let me know, classes officially start June 15, but final orientation is June 11-12. (oh yeah in case you dont know, I will be attending Lincoln Tech in Edison, NJ).

I go to lincoln tech but the paramus campus and yes it is required by the time your clinicals begin. Also yes it must be BLS by american heart because they are saying that american heart is what the hospitals and LTC facilities require. When I started class they gave us a list of places that was american heart sponsored to call and schedule a class but I had ulreadly had mine from when I did my medical assistant course. But all my other classmates picked one on the list and it was under $100 so ask them at the next orientation.

NycCutie: Well the Edison campus gave us a website and told us to take the course for healthcare professionals which the acls came up under it, so its actually the basic cpr class then. Right? Maybe this is a sign, should I transfer to the Paramus campus.

Find a place (hospital, fire station, etc) that will agree to do your skills check & issue your card. They will probably charge $25-$50 for this. The AHA website (www.americanheart.org) has a course finder that you can use.

Go to www.onlineaha.org and purchase the BLS for Healthcare Providers Online Part I for $17.50.

Take the completion certificate to your skills check.

Complete the skills & get your card!

sounds even better I will look into that as well, because I was looking at the wrong course I was a little sticker shocked but I did find one near me for $70 I will call them in the morning as well.

I wasn't aware ACLS certification was required for some programs. I would double check with your program coordinator. Perhaps you misunderstood her statement? Maybe she jumped from "You need to be CPR certified before classes begin," directly to the statement "You will need to be ACLS certified after you graduate."

My school provided us with a $15 CPR certification class. $300? Yikes... use the power of google.
