Acceptance to Ontario BScN program??

Published

Hi!

I've applied to Humber, Seneca, Georgian, Centennial and Mohawk for Nursing this September.

I've been out of high school for 10 years, so I am currently taking a Pre-Health course at Durham College.

Does anyone know if this will be enough to get me in? My high school marks are not that stellar. But my average last semester at Durham was 87%. Will the colleges not look at my high school marks because of my college marks?

Thanks!

Jess

I am in the exact same position as you! I have also been out of school for 10 yrs and am currently taking the courses requiered to apply as a mature student in the fall of 09. My highschool marks were ok (low 80's) except for grade 12 math which I bombed (54) I am sooooo stressed about that mark. I hope they dont put too much weight on highschool marks. I was told that in order to apply as a mature student all you needed to take was bio 1 and 2 and chem 1 and 2 and have a minimum of 70% in all 4 courses. In bio 1 and chem 1 I ended up with low 90's and hope to do the same in bio 2 and chem 2. My fingers are crossed for you!!!

I applied as a mature student years ago. I wasn't accepted despite my marks meeting the entrance requirements. Turns out that here in Alberta, it's not a guarantee of admission. They look at everyone's marks and go from there. At that time they were asking for a minimun of 65% for mature students but only accepted those with marks in the 80%s.

Life experience doesn't really seem to matter.

Good luck to both of you.

I took pre-health last year at Georgian right after high-school and ended up with an 87 average both semesters as well. Now I'm currently in the BScN program at Georgian and they accept students who take pre-health with an average of 74. So I don't believe you will have any problem. I also got into Seneca with those pre-health marks aswell..but I never heard back from Mohawk, nothing not even a decline or acceptance.

I've heard the programs at Seneca and Georgian are fairly different. Georgian is extremley caring centered, which is nice. But you end up at York in the end for both! haha :)

Good luck!

I was wondering, to get into the pre-health do you need really high marks?

or just having taken the chemistry, bio, math, etc enough?? Im planning to take pre-health at Seneca for BScN. Is my dream career.

thank you!!! :o:o

All you need for pre health is English. I didn't even graduate highschool and got in with just my GED.

was this the pre-health for Seneca or Georgian, because this are specific for a possible entrance to BcSN pogram because the rest of the pre-health are only for practical nursing. Where did you applied to?

I'm not sure what you mean about specific to BScN or practical nursing. Pre health is designed to prep you for many types of health care programs, not just nursing. It gives you the pre requisites you need to apply to those programs, plus extra courses like Critical Thinking, Health Care in Canada, and some gen-eds of your choice. I am attending Georgian, but most colleges offer very similar programs.

I want to apply for a pre-health that will later help me get in to Bscn program so I can later on become a RN. I currently live in Toronto and the pre-health here only allow you to get into practical nursing and not for bscn program. So I research many, and the pre health at Seneca, Georgian, and St. Clair are the only ones that with a high gps in the course your allow to go into the program I want which is the bscn. I know they required an English and math grade 12 and if you have taken chem, bio, and physics it would be a better chance to get in to the pre health. I'm not sure how true that is, but I'm quite confuse. I really will like to apply to a program that will after take me to the bscn path.

You need Grade 12 math and grade 12 english but if you don't have it they'll ask you to do a mature student test. It's easy to get into. I applied for pre health as a back up plan in case I didn't get into my nursing program. I ended up get in to the nursing so I didn't bother with the pre health

@Jesslynn:

I know this post is really old but you can probably answer my quesion better now. You said you were taking Pre Health at Durham? And you were going to apply for BScN at different universities? I have tried to reach many universities to ask this question: I am going to be taking Pre Health at Durham this coming fall. I am going to apply to UOIT but as well would like to have more options for universities. So, were you offered any acceptances from any other universities, other than Durham/UOIT? I thought that most colleges and uni's have their collab programs and so therefore you cannot take Pre health at one college and then apply to another college collab program? I just hear so many different things so could you let me know what happened with you after Pre health?

Thanks so much!!
