Acceptance letters for nursing programs, fall 2010

I don't know the particular circumstances of the student that didn't receive the scholarship. I don't know if they made special allowances and permitted her to stay, or if it the practice and there were other students at Marietta without the scholarship. As long as you want to work for WellStar, the scholarship is a good deal. It was very competitive last year.

I appreciate the information. I guess I will just have to wait and see how it all works out. Waiting seems to be the name of the game at this point in time! :)

@ Memerz I was told something differently when I talked to the Director, I specifically asked about working and getting the scholarship because I planned to work while attending school. She basically said it was based on who GHC selected or recommended for the scholarship and it was also based on where you lived. She did say since I was living in cobb county I would be ideal for the scholarship, I don't know how any student would be able to commute from Rome to any of the Wellstar hospital because I believe the hospital out there is floyd medical center and most of the Wellstar hospitals are in Cobb county. I really need to find out because now I'm total confused or talk to someone who graduated from the program.

rojahs - I didn't mean to imply that we in Cobb county would be sent to Rome (against our wishes) and the Rome students allowed to come to Marietta. I meant that if you put Marietta on your application as your campus of choice, you received that location. I just didn't know if you had to apply for the scholarship at the Marietta location. I know last year that if you lived close to the Marietta campus, you DID get special consideration. Obviously, those of us wishing to receive the scholarship are hoping to work at a WellStar facility, so that wouldn't make sense for Rome students. Sorry for the confusion.

Well, if anyone gets any specific answers to this, please post them. I was told some months back that if you wanted to attend the Marietta campus, you were to put that on your application. If you were accepted to the nursing program, your application would then be pulled and placed in front of Wellstar who would then go through their own process to see if you were a good fit for them. If so, you would receive the scholarship and get to attend the Marietta campus. If not, you could NOT attend the Marietta campus, but did have the choice of attending the Rome campus since you had been accepted to the program. If you felt the Rome campus was too far away, then you could decline your acceptance to the nursing program. As for the Wellstar scholarship itself, I spoke to someone from Wellstar at a nursing fair at KSU. I was told by the Wellstar representative that it isn't exactly a scholarship. It is more like tuition reimbursement. After you complete the program, you apply for a job at a Wellstar facility just like anyone else; however, you would have priority over someone "off the street." If you are hired, and work for the required amount of time (either 2 or 3 years) then you do not have to pay your tuition back to Wellstar. If you do not get hired by Wellstar, or choose not to work for Wellstar, then you must pay for your tuition. Whether you pay for it up front and Wellstar reimburses you once you start working or whether they pay for it up front and you reimburse them if you do NOT work for Wellstar, I do not know. I hope this information helps - it probably just adds to all the confusion!

(because their is a high failure/dropout rate during first semester) If you make it to second semester, you receive 1st and 2nd semester tuition money. Then for 3rd and 4th semester, you receive the money just prior to the semester beginning. You are obligated to 3 years employment with WellStar. If you choose not to work for WellStar after graduation, you pay back the tuition, interest AND a penalty!! I don't know what they do as far as the "scholarship" if WellStar choose's not to hire you???? I'm sure WellStar will do their best to try and find a position for everyone that received their money.

That sounds about right. I guess the only thing now that I'm unsure of is whether or not you can attend the Marietta campus if Wellstar does not select you. According to what I was told, you can NOT; however, it would be nice if you could attend the Marietta campus regardless of whether or not you are selected by Wellstar to receive their scholarship. Living in Kennesaw and driving up to Rome would be very tough!

I guess we'll find out all the details soon enough...well, actually 2 months or so. Seems like SUCH a long time - but hopefully the wait will be worth it!!

This sounds about right...hopefully I will get choosen for the Marietta campus if I get accepted, I was planning to work at Wellstar while I was in school anyway.

Hi, I know that I am so late to be posting this but I have a question about the marietta campus. Im confused. You would think that if you live really far away from Rome then they would consider you for Marietta. I live in cumming and getting to rome would probably take me 2 hrs one way! So I hope that not living in Cobb county is going to effect my chances of getting into marietta. I only live like 40 min. from Marietta. I would still go though, if I had no choice. I just want to graduate and be a nurse!
