Accelerated Nursing Program - Low GPA

Hello!

I'm going to be applying to accelerated nursing programs (in NY) this fall, but I'm worried I won't be able to find a program that accepts me. Most of them require a 3.0 cumulative GPA and mine is only a 2.86. However, I have a good GPA for the prerequisite courses (though I have some courses left to take). I've also volunteered at a hospital and have over 400 hours and I am very involved on campus. I was wondering if there's still a chance for me and where it would be best for me to apply.

Thanks for the help!

Thank you the school that I am in is in Bronx, NY.

I graduated with a 3.0 in my Bachelor's and got B's on my pre-reqs. I was just accepted to Touro College in Brooklyn. They will be transitioning from ADN to BSN this summer. I would recommend applying there. The staff is very nice and will respond to you quickly.

I was in the same boat. Im from NY and moved to Florida for a 1 yr program. My GPA was a 2.6. Its called Remington College of Nursing

Just wondering Cecestar5, what college is it called?

Hi Congrats! I was wondering how you liked the program?? My GPA is a 2.9 and I am also applying to Remington for the Summer 2015. Did you have previous health experience on your application? I am very scared I won't get in but your post gives me hope! :)

hi so what did you do. if you got in which schools?

I am in the same boothe. I applied to around 4 accelerated programs and was denied. Even the ones that would consider GPAs under 3.0. I even tried AAS Programs and I am on a waiting list for one. I am so desperate to start in Fall that I am considering LPN schools at this time. Only the ones that are considering taking my transfer credits

hi, can you please tell us what you finally decided to do? i know it is late but a sister need your help. thank you

hi, how do you like the program? i when for my undergrad at tour NY.

Don't give up.

I am in an ABSN program- Virginia- 7 point grading scale.

# of applicants accepted: was 30 now they may take 35

- current cohort size:18

TIPS:

- connect with the right Admissions counselor and communicate often

- present your transcripts visually if you have a low gpa from your first degree.

- ex. Make a separate sheet with a box and input all their prereques and your grades earned and that gpa to show the admissions panel you can do this!

- write a personal statement why you want to be an RN and why at their school. Let them know what you want to contribute to nursing long term.

- Let them see maybe why you had a low gpa and why it will be different this time if accepted

- what have you done professionally?

- always include letters of recommendation

- I was nationally recognized in my work prior at the hospital I worked at, show that off! Be proud of your accomplishments, volunteer work with animals, churches etc.

- express you are cultured somehow. Express your travels somehow. Schools want diverse cohorts.

About Me:

- Undergrad gpa - crap (under 2.5) but I went to a top university in the country. (A baby Ivy League school) I had a traumatic death of a parent and I lost it for a while. Glad I even graduated.

- had letters of recommendation from directors and higher ups from my prior hospital I held a leadership position at for 5 years after graduating from my first undergrad in 08'

- I was wait listed originally in my ABSN program!!! But I got a seat! Yes you can do this!!!

- currently, I hold a cumulative GPA that meets the Sigma Theta Tau nursing honor society so if you think you can't you CAN and WILL. Don't give up if its your dream!

Hello, if I may ask , what was your masters in? I'm trying to get into a nursing program with a 3.07 and a bachelors in nutrition

Hello I will like to know what school you got accepted into for the LPN one yr

NYtoFLRN, I know this post is old, but I'm in the exact same boat (2.99 GPA mostly due to me being on academic probation 1st semester, then my grades went up). Where did you take your prereqs?
