okay, i just got accepted to a cuny nursing program for spring 2011!:yeah:i am so excited! i am required to take anatomy & physiology ii along with my clinicals this semester. since this will be my first semester of ns i can not fail any of my nursing courses or i will be out of the program. my pharmacology professor, who is also from the nursing dept. told me that i would be "committing academic suicide" if i took a&p ii with the 1st semester of clinicals. she said i can always register for a&p ii and if i feel like i can't handle it, drop it and take it over the summer. my question is will i suffer in my clinicals if i do not take a&p ii now? is there a fair amount of course work that will require me to have knowledge of a&p ii in order for me to understand the work? or, should i just take a&p ii with my clinicals and work my butt off to pass everything? i'm not working so i have the time, but i do have a 4 month old. any advice.....?

You said your acceptance required you to take A&P II So I don't see the question here, if your required then that means you have to take it.

I think OP is asking if she will somehow be at a disadvantage not having A&P II under her belt during her first semester of nursing school, which is the spring semester.
Because if she could possibly put it off until summer, she will.
(Correct me if I'm wrong.)
Yes Chicagoing you have it correct. I have already been accepted and they advise me to take A&P II now but there is a way around it and I can take it now or over the summer. My question is will I be at a disadvatage if I put it off until summer. Do I need A&P II for my 1st semester clinicals?

Take it over the summer. I have no idea what is covered in your first semester of clinicals but you can look it all up. You will not have time to study for your nursing class(es) and write up care plans if you also have to study and read for A&P. Really, seriously. It isn't a matter of just working hard. It is trying to find the time to do it all really well.
I would also assume that if it was absolutely necessary to have completed A&P II prior to your first semester, then it the program would require you to do so.
I bumped into one of my classmates last spring who told me that she wished she would have completed microbiology prior to entering nursing school. It wasn't that she was somehow at a disadvantage that first year (without having taken it), she just didn't have enough time to devote to her nursing studies and micro.

I think that you should try to postpone A&P II until the summer because last fall semester I had that class, the corresponding lab, and my upper level psych class and i seriously worked my butt off for A's in those classes. A&P II can be an intense course because of all the reading/studying thats required. I'm starting nurs school in a week and thankfully will only be taking nursing courses & clinicals. But, thats because at my school A&P (along with other pre-req courses) are required to be completed before you begin nurs school. So, in short, I'd recommend putting it off and like another poster said just look up what you don't already know because sounds like it will be too much of a load which could in turn hurt your grades.
JROregon I will take your word for it. Sounds like I would be bitting off more than I can chew at this point. My main focus is nursing clinicals so I will definitely take A&P II over the summer. Thanks for the advice! and Good Luck with your nursing career
Hi Chicagoing! Thanks for clearing that up. Like you said if it's not absolutely necessary to take A&P II now then I will take it over the summer. Thank you for your response and good luck on your career
Thanks caskew7. I will keep that in mind. Like most other posters said I should take it over the summer and look up anything I really need to know at this point. Thank you for your advice and good luck!

Take it during the summer if it's an option. NS is a full time job as is a 4mo old.... school will be difficult enough without A&P
