It's hard for new grads with any degree to get a hospital job in western mass. You can find work out of the hospital, easily. Once you are making money, focus on networking- that is the key to getting an actual person to read your resume and give you a shot at an interview. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get your resume through the application bots and on to a real person- you gotta know someone on the inside. Hate to say it, but it's true

In all honesty, it seems like it is hard for anyone to get a job. It seems like most grads take about 3-9 months to find a job unless you were working internally before.

A BSN is the only thing I ever had (graduated in 2008) and there was a period in time from 2009 to 2012 when I thought getting the BSN was a waste of time, considering the job market.
The job market is hard on everyone. Nurse practitioners are still hot because they allow hospitals to replace expensive hospitalists with relatively cheap practitioners. This means more cash in the pockets of the hospital board members.
ICU/Critical care nurses are still demand, but ICU is not an easy unit to work in. I work with a bunch of excellent medical-surgical nurses and there are virtually zero volunteers for a transfer into ICU. No wonder ICU units will always hire the right people-because their ICU nurses get fired or quit at an alarming rate. My hospital has like 7 ICU positions open all year round. Nobody's coming to apply.
Good luck.

What hospitals are you looking at and for what type of positions? I live in CT and work in western mass. Mercy, Baystate, Cooley, Noble, and Holyoke all hire ADN nurses for bedside positions.

So find a job outside of the hospital and start on your BSN right away. There are too many new grads for too few job openings. They have to start weeding out somewhere and education is the easiest way to start. Best of luck and hopefully you find something soon.

Look outside the hospital, and work on your BSN in the meantime. It's what I did.

Nah, getting a BSN is a waste of time, too. Unless you already worked as an RN and are moving up from an ADN or something. 8 months, no call backs, no interviews, no nothing. Way to blow the last half of my 20s working and going to school for nothing.
I think it all depends on where you live. NPs aren't in demand here.
