A reliable online program to get nursing pre-reqs done with?

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site and very glad that I had stumbled across it. As of 10 min ago I almost enrolled with the University of Phoenix to get my nursing prerequisites done with. Anatomy & Physiology I and II with labs, microbiology with labs, human growth and development etc. I am so glad I read the reviews about UoP before I gave them any money!

I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara in 2012 with a BS in Biology. I loved it. Now that I finally figured out nursing is a passion of mine I am looking to apply to a school for their BSN program or Accelerated-BSN program. But I need these few pre-reqs to be completed and the community colleges in my area are all so impacted I am looking to an online program. I have heard such mixed reviews about different online programs for pre-reqs and being that I almost gave UoP 6K+ and got ripped off I am very curious as to which online schools are legit and which are not.

If any has an ONLINE PROGRAM THAT HAS WORKED FOR THEM FIRST HAND THEY RECOMMEND TO FINISH PREREQUISITES FOR NURSING SCHOOL PLEASE LET ME KNOW . I HAVE heard so many mixed reviews and second hand information about online programs I don't know what to believe now.

Thank you all so very much for your time. I just received my certification as a Nursing Assistant and I definitely know I am headed in the right direction with passion and enthusiasm :) !!!!

I decided to take my prerequisites online at my local community college.. I also have so many questions and doubt's about online schools..

Not sure I understand what the word "lmpacted"means, but are you saying you cannot get registered at any of the local Community Colleges, which would be significantly cheaper than the thrashy school such as UoP? What about doing these prerequisites at one of the State Schools?

I used Portage. They have a lot of courses and you can take them on your own time. I finished nutrition and psych across the lifespan in 2-3 weeks. Chemistry took a little longer, but I'd definitely recommend Portage. (Portagelearning.com)

Just make sure your school accepts their transfer credits. :)

The University of New England (Science Prerequisites for Health Professions - online classes | University of New England Online) has an entire post bacc, premed group of prerequisite courses that are used by premed, predent, prenursing, etc. students to fulfill requirements. These courses are expensive but this school is reputable and these courses are accepted by medical and dental programs. One good aspect of these courses is that they are open entry, open exit. You can start whenever you like and do the course as fast as you want. I have looked around and have found that online prereq courses from legit schools are pretty much all expensive. The schools have all figured out that online ed is quite the moneymaker.

System duplicate

Psata, yes I was referring to "impacted" meaning I would have to try and crash the courses at my local community colleges and state schools, and not know if I will get a spot into the class until 2-3 weeks into the class. There are too many variables for error there I would rather just take the courses online. I am only looking for ~4 more prerequisite courses and need them to be transcript transferable.

Lamore and cali, thank you so much for the recommendations! I am doing my research on both of those now :)

I was just about to start up with edukan.com But if there is experience with portage and the university of New England I will look into both of those as well.

Nothing wrong with University of Phoenix. They are just expensive. I am a graduate of UOP so I can say they are a good school. Just pricey.

I suggest doing your pre reqs at community college. Your best bet to not pay so much.
