A&P 2!!

Right now we're still pretty early in the semester so we haven't done much yet. We're starting with the cardiovascular system. I know we're going to be doing sheep brains, cow hearts?, and the biggie will the be the cat throughout the semester. My only experience with dissecting was with two fetal pigs, one in high school A&P and another in human bio years ago. Oh, and I took that A&P class in HS for fun! LOL

Hello all my fellow future nurses!
Right now I'm in A&P 2 [along with a few other classes], and we're going to dissect a sheep brain tomorrow!
I am at a huge disadvantage - outside of a worm in middle school, I've never dissected anything! I am nervous and very excited.
What are you doing in class now? How are things going? Have you cut open anything cool yet?

GEEE i wish i would've had the opportunity to dissect a sheep's heart or brain! I had never dissected anything but I remembered what I learned in anatomy and physiology pretty well. So the day we finally dissected a pig in A&P2 I was super geeked and the first person at a station! I actually did really well, the other girls in my group were too afraid and grossed out,one was even pregnant and couldn't stand the smell. I aced that part of the final. Have fun! It's gonna be super cool.

So we got to actually cut the sheep brain, and our professor had two human brains for us to play with and touch! I almost dropped the human brain [oops lol!]. But class was super interesting. I felt like I was having a hard time remembering where everything went in lecture, but after getting my hands on the brain I am confident that I'll be able to label everything in my practical.

It was kind of gross, but very interesting!

My professor said we get to handle a cadaver towards the end of the semester! eek!

In my school, we cut up sheep brains in A&P I. We are now cutting up cow's heart's!

We haven't dissected anything yet. Not sure when we will. This week we did experiments with blood (our own). Still pretty interesting!

We just did a sheep's heart! I've also done a sheep's eyeball which, if you haven't done that yet, it's the grossest!

In AP1 we dissected a cat, sheep brain, and cow eye. In AP2 we have just had our heart practical and dissected pig hearts - we will also be doing more with the cat. It helps with building your knowledge to do the dissections; its also important to remember that these animals were once living and being respectful to the body just as you would with a human cadaver is essential.

We just did a sheep's heart! I've also done a sheep's eyeball which, if you haven't done that yet, it's the grossest!

We're actually doing a cow's eye on Tuesday and then an ear the week after that. I'm very nervous about it, but this stuff is so fascinating to me. very excited!

I homeschool my kids and have taught an elementary dissecting class for a co-op. I ordered everything from grasshoppers to fetal pigs (which came in a kit) from home science tools. It is remarkably cheap and you can find guides for it all on the Internet. It is really neat and at home you have plenty of time to explore and can cut the stuff to death. Much easier than you would imagine. :). My fav is cow eyeballs which I got from a meat processor for free. There is an awesome online tutorial for those..

I'm really surprised at the difference of disections in the same classes. In my A&P 1 we did the sheep brain and eye, and so far in 2 we just did the heart. I wish our class was doing a cat, that sounds awesome!
