A&P 1 - how to study Histology?

OK, today I signed up for A&P 1 and 2 for the spring semester. Each will be an 8 week class, so I'm planning to do a little studying in December to prepare myself. I had another thread and it was suggested I learn bones and muscles as much as I can before the class starts.

I saw somewhere that histology is also difficult?

Any tips? Is it really that hard? I'd really appreciate any tips that will help prepare me so that I'm not completely overwhelmed when class starts.

I've never taken Biology or Chemistry in college (and only biology in highschool 20 yrs ago) -- so I'm looking for all the help I can get to make this class a success.

Thanks!!!

I am extremely interested in Anatomy, but scared to death of the 8 week session! I don't feel smart enough to do it, but I felt the same way about Algebra and I'm finishing with a 98. So I am just hoping it turns out the same way, I'm very dedicated to studying so surely that will make a difference.

I'll look up shotgun histology, and I definitely want to read the 1st 3 chapters. I'm getting the book from my local library as soon as my fall classes end. Then I'm going to study it until my classes start about a month later.

I personally wouldn't do it in 8 weeks. It's a lot to keep up with. Lab and lecture are like 2 different classes too. But it depends on your circumstances and all that. Some do just fine with it, not me though!

I am worried I won't do well, but unfortunately my college only offers it in an 8 week session. They want students to get A&P 1 and 2 out of the way in 1 semester. I'm dissapointed in that, but I don't have any other options. I just hope I can do well.

Great sites Mango peach!!!! That practice exam would have been ALL I needed to study for my histology exam. :)

This website is really good for learning the terms and different stops on each bone.

Bone Labeling Exercises.

Sent me an email and I'll send you that tissue chart.

Collect, from the Internet, various images of slides of the different tissues so you can compare and contrast even examples of the same tissues so you can identify them more easily. Relying on just one example, say from a textbook, can hurt you when lab practicals come around.

histlogy was cake compared to muscles. I dunno, buy the book and start making flashcards.

wow, this is an amazing helpful post. I start AP in the Spring and I have been looking at flashcards and books, etc to get going. What flascards do you all think are best?

Well since I'm the original poster I don't have much experience, but I bought the Kaplan cards -- and they seem really good to me. Of course, I have not even started A&P, but after looking over the bones -- they seem really good to me.

I'm just wondering how in the world I'll ever know every bump and indention (for lack of better words) on every single bone in the body in just a few weeks time???? Not to mention, there's a whole set of cards here -- that's only one part of them.

A&P is definitely going to challenge me!

You won't have to know it all. At least not at my school. Just the ones that they think are the most important.

Well that is reassuring!

Thanks!

I am taking anatomy right now. I have found that histology is not bad, pretty simple, just memorize, it the easiest of all subjects. I studied for histology by taking pictures and labeling the back and quizzing myself like double jeopardy. Bones are not bad but time consuming for there is allot of memorization, I did the same take pictures and memorize. Muscles is a nightmare on elm street. I do recommend in finding others who have taken this class and see if you can borrow their notes, lab book, etc. to start studying, and have someone quiz you.
