Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone knew of any recognized perioperative nursing programs. I saw that Centennials is but does anyone know if there are any others? I'm a recent grad and have been working on a dementia outreach program but am looking to take a course in September because that is what I have always wanted to do

Well I imagine it is. Why wouldn't it be?

I work in the OR and did my certificate through Mohawk. I think all college programs are considered equal when applying for a position. Experience and CNA certification are looked on favorably though after you are working.

I would suggest taking it at a local college, they may have access to placements in hospitals closer to where you live. Your performance in your clinical, may lead to a position after. Good Luck!

I contacted the ORNAC directly recently about this. NO RPN Operating Room program is approved through ORNAC, so said the lady in the email. However since Centennial approves the RN Operating Room/Perioperative program, she said the one of RPN taken there will be pretty "solid".

What y'all have forgotten is that in Canada, nearly every professional specialty group only is open to RNs.

Dialysis qualified PNs aren't allowed to join specialty group, despite having the same course and writing the same exam (here in Alberta).

Our OR Techs (LPNs with the course, which is the same course RNs complete except for a supervisory module) have their own professional group, AORTA (association of operating technicians of alberta)

for those that have taken one of these courses, did you have OR experience. Some programs require a couple of years of OR experience. Do you think it's possible to get accepted as a new grad?
