This morning we were discussing spilt S1's, EKGs, ect. My instructor said we didn't need to worry about them cause "Associate degree nurses don't do ACLS"

PLEASE tell me that there is some explination for this, or something else she could have ment. Maybe I misheard what she said? :uhoh21:

Any ideas? She's a really together nurse and seem to know her stuff...

Don't guess she knows her stuff that well! I am an ADN with 32 years experience. I have had ACLS, PALS, NRP,TNCC,RNC,and of course BCLS.

No one ,ever, anywhere in the world(Ihave worked in Europe and the Middle East) has ever asked me about my educational level except another nurse. I have never been told I cannot do anything or hold any position because I have an ADN. Now, I think that is changing, but anyone who wants to go into nursing management (where a BSN may now be required in some facilities) is welcome to it.I have served my time in management.Take all the classes you can and don't feel less for your degree.Your nursing career can still be all that you want it to be. I'd ask her privately what she meant.

Associate degree nurses can perform ACLS.

Maybe she just meant that the ADN itself doesn't qualify you and that you have to take an ACLS class.

I am an ADN nurse. I have taken CPR, ACLS, MICN, PALS, NRP and am a card-carrying member of all. :)

Every ADN RN at the hospital where I work is required to take ACLS within 3 months of employment there!!! We can and do use it! I wonder why your instructor is under that mistaken impression??

You're not getting your money's worth in school. If you are going for a BSN, you should be able to ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING an ADN nurse can do. You can't manage people (which is what most BSN's think they are going to do) if you can't manage patients. Your professor lost respect from this ADN cuz, if you came to me and told me that I had to do it because your prof told you ADNs do it and you didn't need to know it, I'd suddenly get sick.

Hi! I am in an ADN program and we are getting ACLS certified before graduation as part of our curriculum! They are teaching us the course a few weeks before pinning! Looking forward to that "mega code" experience! NOT!
