Thank you for the suggestions! As a student very interested in the OR, would joining the AORN be a good decision? It's a bit expensive, but if it would offer me a leg up and help me better understand the technologies and procedures, I'd be happy to do it.

How close are you to graduating?

I think the biggest help would be a scrub tech course, of course those are quite more expensive and more work

I graduate in December. I'm sure that would really benefit me but nursing school is expensive and time consuming as is. Sucks the life right outta ya!

Scrub tech course is another degree program, therefore expensive. Find a hospital offering the OR to new grads or to nurses with no OR experience. The Periop 101 course from AORN is excellent to prepare one for the OR. Some hospitals offer this as an education opportunity so you can then apply for an OR position. Many hospitals do OJT for nurses and you will learn all aspects of perioperative nursing.

A student membership in AORN is only $20. You will have access to most their site, and get a subscription to the AORN journal. It is worth it!
