As so many of us caregivers have posted, I am being sanctioned by the OBN. I did not divert meds, however I am currently on probation with my local county. I was indicted on felony charges and sentenced to one year of probation with an in intervention in leui of conviction. I have received an initial letter stating,

for a hearing. With guidance from a local attorney, I did respond requesting a consent agreement . I recently received notice of a preconference and hearing date. I allowed my license to lapse prior to legal problems. Can someone who has been there please comment. I am working a twelve step program, and life is still a struggle. I trust my higher power who knows i r not perfect, yet work for a board that seems to not want us to recover. This is truly a sad world when caretakers don't get a second chance yet entertainers do! I have so much to say on this subject. It is sickening, our own medical associates say w fr do not have the capacity to recover. I am just like the person who suffers from any other disease. This is how we are treated.

Your post is very scattered, what is your felony? Why are you under the BON? Yes there are many of us out here who can point you in the right direction but without knowing your story its hard. What was you DOC? Mine was alcohol. Been in the program 3 plus years.

I apologize for my introductory post, I am new to the forum and my phone did not want to cooperate. I've added the app and hope this helps. I am a LPN who recently have been sanctioned by the Ohio Board of Nursing. I was found eligible for the intervention in leui of conviction. The charges are drug abuse and drug trafficking. My drug of choice is marijuana. This is my first case and will be dismissed as long as i comply with the rules of my probation. I do realize that the BON has just begun, and i am reaching out for help.

Every journey begins with the first steps. You've started yours. What helped me most was living each day as fully as I could without focusing on the end. Play by the rules they lay out for you, if you have a true desire to maintain your license you can do this as many of us have. Its not easy... Believe in yourself... ask for help... don't be to hard on yourself (plenty of folks are around to do that part)... Good luck ...... Peace

Oh oogie! How true your advice is! Thinking down the road is such a dead end. Fear doesn't come from thinking of the future- it comes from trying to control it. To the OP: it sounds like you've got a good start- remember that it's not that the board doesn't want you to recover- they are people to. They are just people charged with protecting the public. No one wants you to hurt or suffer, unfortunately we do suffer for our mistakes, our own doing. I can only say that each board judges each nurse on an individual basis. Keep yourself well and everything will fall into place in its own time. The sanction sounds scary and bad and negative- but it means they want to see you, speak with you, see your side and what you have done to work towards recovery. Keep your head up!

I realize this post is a little older but you are facing something that I do have some experience with. I also was charged with a felony and got intervention in lieu of conviction. I had a two year sentence of probation and was released early after one year. Of course the board found out about the charges and I had my license suspended. I did not get a lawyer, I should have but don't know how much that would have changed things. My license was suspended for 18 months and I had a long list of things I had to do to show I was working on my recovery. At the end of the 18 months I applied to get the suspension lifted and was granted my license. It is a 3 year probationary term. I had a 6 month narc resriction and some permanent restrictions. Of course nothing counts towards your 3 year term until you are in a position that requires your license so it took me over a year to find someone to give me a chance. I have been working again as a RN for 2 years and am meeting with the board in a couple weeks to try to get off the probationary term early. Scared to death about that meeting.

When you get the papers it all sounds so terrible and like a mountain that you won't be able to climb but it can be done if it's something that you want. I had many people tell me that I would never be able to get through their requirements. I almost gave up several times and wanted to tell them to just keep my license but I didn't and am thankful that I didn't. I had to work minimum wage jobs and was even on food stamps for awhile to put food on the table for my kids, since it was even hard to find minimum wage jobs because everybody knows there is something going on when an RN is applying for a minimum wage job.

Just do whatever they say you need to do. It sucks at times and feels like your life isn't your own at times but this too shall pass and things will all work out if you just keep doing the next right thing.
