I am about to take my state test I was wondering if I could get a job working with children as a CNA. I want to continue to become a RN working with children.

well, yes, you could, but finding a job to care for children as a CNA will be extremely difficult if not impossible. Most CNA's work with the senior population...it's where the jobs are. You may find work in a children's hospital.

While the most common CNA jobs are found in geriatric facilities, CNA jobs working with children aren't unheard of. One field you may want to look into is working with developmentally disabled children, and facilities for such. I've heard that's one area that is in need of CNAs.

I have friend who works as a tech in PICU. However, those jobs are considered plum and she had to put in more than a year in a med/surg unit (with the same hospital system) before she could even apply. So you can get there, but you may have to pay some dues first.

Almost every major city has a children's hospital, though, so start applying!

Of course! In a hospital you can work in peds, L & D, mother baby, NICU, PICU etc. You may need to start off on a regular floor and then transfer to your desired floor after you put some time in. But it's not impossible. The biggest myth my CNA instructor told the class was, "You'll all end up working in a nursing home." None of my friends from school work in one, and we all started off with no experience. Good luck and keep your eye on your goal of working with children :)
