Working during Nursing School?

I was just wondering if there are any of you who are currently working full time (whether it's 5 8-hour shifts or 3 12s) and going to nursing school. I'm reading everywhere that you won't have a social life in nursing school and all you do is study. That sounds reasonable but I won't have a choice but to work during nursing school. Is it possible to work full time and go to school? If you are doing that how are you managing? How far are you in the program? How and when do you study? Hopefully I will be in nursing school Fall 2013. By the way, I have no husband and no kids. I plan to keep it that way until I finish.

I just finished nursing school and I worked 1 day (12 hour shift) per week. It was really tough and I could not imagine working any more than that.

Some of my classmates failed out because they were working full time while going to school but a few (3 or 4) were able to work full time and complete school.

i work on campus, 17 hrs a week. i wish i could work less but like you i have no choice.

i actually have a lot of time to study.... it helps to work on campus because you save a lot of time from driving. is there anyway you could get a job, let's say, as a secretary or assistant at your school? hth and good luck :)

I'm currently a year from graduating with my ADN. I work in a hospital, but only as a .6 (six 8hr shifts over every two weeks). I was a .7 initially, but couldn't handle it (without getting completely run-down). I was a .5 last semester and think that was a much better fit than the .6 I currently work, but I have to make enough to pay my mortgage! I barely have a life outside of school and work as it is, so I couldn't IMAGINE trying to work FULL time when I'm barely over half time! Yikes. Maybe if you had a job where you weren't busy and could study some of the time, but I can't do that in my job, so it's difficult.

i worked 3 8s a week, including every weekend and vaca day and holiday thru my jr year. senior year i was married and my husband was working enough that i didn't have to. my grades went from a stellar 2.85 to 3.45.

I work full time in finance - 8-9 hour days 5 days a week, while going to school part time and studying constantly. I also race triathlons, do tons of volunteer and community outreach work and am getting married next week.

it's totally possible. :)
